Trust STFC are calling on supporters to attend a fans’ meeting next week as they continue to develop long and short-term plans of action.

The Trust, who recently announced intentions to purchase the County Ground freehold from Swindon Borough Council, say all Town fans are welcome to attend the event which is due to take place at the MECA in Regents Circus, opposite the central library, on Wednesday, May 24 from 7pm.

Chairman Steve Mytton believes it is critical for fans of all ages to have the chance to express their opinions about the direction of the Trust and discover more about ongoing projects.

Mytton said: “Our aim as a Trust is always to be as transparent as possible with the supporters we represent.

“Occasions such as the meeting at the MECA allow us the chance to fill everyone in on our work behind the scenes since our last get-together but, more importantly, they offer the entire fanbase the opportunity to tell us what they think we should be doing.

“Football is all about opinions, and Trust STFC’s projects are no different. The best way for us to move forward collectively, with a strong sense of unity, is if we listen to each other and come up with the best possible plan.

“It’s been a terrible year to be a Swindon supporter but we are confident that, with a little bit of extra effort, the fans can make the next 12 months really special. We just need to do more than moan.

“Working together for a better future for our local club, which matters so much to all of us, is vital.”

Trust STFC board members have been involved in constructive conversations with council officials on the matter of the County Ground freehold in recent weeks, with a positive meeting taking place on April 24.

The group initially made an offer to the local authority of £1.1million and, although no actual deal has yet been agreed, Mytton is happy with how the discussions are progressing.

He said: “We’re really pleased with the way things have gone so far. It was obviously going to take time to come to an arrangement that is right for all parties.

“We are looking for a deal that is best not only for Swindon Town but for the town of Swindon, too. There’s been no reason to suggest that won’t be possible so far.”

In March, more than 100 supporters crammed into the Goddard’s Arms pub in Old Town for the Trust’s AGM, with many pledging to return for the fans’ meeting on Wednesday.

Mytton, who was delighted with the attendance at the AGM, is hoping to at least double the number of those present next week.

“Lots of those who came to the AGM promised to come back to our next big meeting, and hopefully they’ll bring a friend - and that friend will bring a friend and so on,” he said.

“The more the merrier.”

Doors will open for the MECA meeting at 7pm, with the event kicking off at 7.30pm.

The agenda includes a review of the club challenges discussed at the AGM, a discussion around other EFL clubs and Supporters’ Trust involvement, and a full update on the County Ground bid including funding mechanisms and the future timeline.
