TEDDY Sheringham has not been approached about the vacant Swindon Town manager’s job, the Advertiser understands.

The former Manchester United, Tottenham and England striker saw his odds for the hotseat at the County Ground slashed from 16/1 to 4/1 by bookmakers over the Bank Holiday weekend.

However, sources close to the former Stevenage manager told the Adver today that there had been no contact from the hierarchy at Swindon regarding the vacancy.

Sheringham, who took part in the pro-Am event prior to the BMW PGA Championship golf tournament at Wentworth last week alongside Tim Sherwood – who is expected to depart as Town's director of football when a new manager is appointed - endured a difficult time in the Stevenage job, winning only seven of his 33 games in charge in the 2015-16 campaign.

The 51-year-old is the latest to be linked with the job at Town following the departure of Luke Williams earlier in this month.

Current Mansfield Town manager Steve Evans and former Town midfielder Adi Viveash were the early front-runners for the post.

However, Town chairman Lee Power had his approach for Evans rebuffed by the Stags, while sources close to Viveash told the Advertiser that he was not interested in the position at the current time.

Former Bristol City and Cheltenham Town manager Steve Cotterill was also approached over the vacancy, however, he did not want to step down to League Two.

Swindon have also been heavily linked with Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald, although it is understood that there has been no approach for the Jags boss.

Town parted company with head coach Luke Williams earlier this month.
