Swindon Town have made Donal McDermott their ninth signing of the summer and second of the week after he penned a one-year deal with the club.

The forward has been on trial at the club and has impressed manager David Flitcroft during two 45-minute outings against Swindon Supermarine and Melksham Town.

McDermott, becomes the second recruit of the week, with Town having already captured the loan signing of Harry Smith from Millwall on Wednesday.

The former Manchester City youth product was offered a new deal at Rochdale, who he made 64 appearances for in the last two seasons, scoring four goals, but rejected that to link up with Flitcroft.

“I’ve played against the (David Flitcroft) teams before and my last manager at Rochdale (Keith Hill) knows the gaffer well, so I knew what I was going to get by coming down here,” he told the club website.

“From the minute the gaffer phoned me, it was all about getting promoted and the fact Swindon is in this league makes it obvious that we are going to be doing everything to get promoted and get back to where we need to be.

“I’m an attacking player, I’m aggressive and I want to score and assist as many goals as I can.”

Meanwhile, Smith, who joined on a season-long loan deal, has also been speaking to the club for the first time and hopes he can provide the goals to fire Swindon back into League One this season.

“After meeting with the gaffer and Futch (Ben Futcher, assistant manager) last week, I knew as soon as I came out of the meeting that I had the feel for it already and I knew that I wanted to play my football here for the upcoming season,” he said.

“The project they want to put in place here is exciting and they want to get the club back to where it belongs, which is League One at the minimum.

“I want to be a part of that too and the fact that they’ve shown belief to get me in is a positive and hopefully we can have a successful season.

“Last year was a disappointing season for the club but the manager and his assistant know exactly what they want to do this season and the aim is promotion.

“I want to be a part of that and hopefully I can bring some goals to the team and help them along the way.”
