SKIPPER Olly Lancashire says arduous away trips hold no fear for the Swindon Town squad as they prepare for another lengthy trek to face Morecambe tomorrow.

Town racked up more than 1,000 miles during the opening four days of the season, kicking off the campaign away at Carlisle United in their League Two curtain raiser on August 5 before travelling to Championship side Norwich City in the Carabao Cup just 72 hours later.

Swindon’s odometer will already be nearing the 1,500 mark with the season little more than a fortnight old by the time they return home from the Globe Arena on Saturday evening.

Although travel is another factor that hampers preparations, Lancashire does not believe it will hold back David Flitcroft’s side – citing their battling 2-1 win over Carlisle as the perfect example.

“It’s another long one for us and the fans as well but the long trip allows us to spend Friday together and get ready,” said Lancashire.

“We can do the right things at the hotel in terms of preparation and food and people can go and see the physio if they need a little massages or anything.

“It is a long way and you can look at it as a challenge but I think there were a lot of positives to come out from Carlisle in both the performance and the result, so we will be looking to do that again.”

A trip to a Morecambe side tipped to drop out of the Football League this year does not exactly have the billing of a glamour tie for Town.

However, Lancashire says churning out results on testing away assignments will be crucial to the team’s chances this season and he hopes the benefit of having a former Shrimps man in their ranks in Paul Mullin will help them do just that this weekend.

“There are quite a few of those games this year, ones you don’t really look forward to on paper but we have got to go everywhere and do a good job,” said centre back Lancashire.

“Mulls knows them very well so he can fill us in on what we need to do there and where we can work on their weaknesses and hopefully exploit them.”
