LUTON Town boss Nathan Jones believes Swindon Town deserved to win despite seeing his side reduced to 10 men for over an hour.

Former Town man Scott Cuthbert was shown a straight red after being accused of shirt pulling in the penalty area, with the game just over half-an-hour old.

Swindon’s Luke Norris had no issues dispatching the spot-kick as David Flitcroft’s outfit took an early lead at Kenilworth Road.

In an intensively competitive game between the two sides, Swindon were able to claim all three points as Chris Hussey and Paul Mullin chipped in to secure all three points.

With several penalty shouts of their own ruled out, the Hatters boss refused to say that is why his side were beaten.

“I’m disappointed with the defeat. We started brightly and we could see that they Swindon set out they were going to hit us on the counter,” said Jones.

“We had a few opportunities, I wouldn’t say we were in control of the game but we were moving the ball well enough.

“Then out of nowhere Swindon got the penalty and the sending off, then the game changes and it is a difficult uphill task.

“Fair play to Swindon they came here, they got the result and they deserved it.”

The former Yeovil Town defender refused to give his opinion on the sending off, as he is more concerned with Luton’s habit of missing opportunities.

“I’ve watched the video back of the sending off and it isn’t conclusive. We had a really great opportunity today after two tough away games,” he added “We always seem to shoot ourselves in the foot and do something silly, we have to eradicate it.

“I can’t say it is a bad decision, I can’t say it was the right decision because it happens quite quickly it’s a difficult one.

“I don’t want to get in trouble, I can sit here and dissect performances from officials but I am more concerned with my team.

“We shot ourselves in the foot and that is the disappointing thing because it keeps happening.

“We have great opportunities to go on winning runs and to build something, we don’t and we need to eradicate it because it’s not the first time.

“When we are at it we are an excellent side, but sometimes we just do silly things.”
