CHELTENHAM Town will have no days off this week as a result of their 3-2 home defeat by Grimsby Town on Tuesday night.

It was their second setback in four days and boss Gary Johnson called his players in for extra training on Wednesday as they bid to turn things around ahead of this weekend’s match against Lincoln City.

“We started off very slowly and we were weak,” Johnson said.

“They won battles all over the field and that’s why they got their opportunities and we defended like schoolboys as a group, so days off are cancelled for a little while.”

NEWPORT County have signed experienced striker Paul Hayes on a free transfer.

The 34-year-old left Wycombe Wanderers in August so was able to join County outside the transfer window.

Former Norwich City trainee Hayes has made nearly 600 league and cup appearances during his career and scored 145 goals and had three spells at Scunthorpe United.

Hayes said Newport boss Mike Flynn approached him via LinkedIn.

COVENTRY City’s Jordan Willis has signed a one-year contract extension.

The 23-year-old academy graduate’s previous deal was to run out in June 2018 but he has agreed new terms with the Sky Blues until June 2019.

The Coventry-born full-back made his debut in November 2011 and has played 139 games, scoring five goals.

GRIMSBY Town have signed former Norwich defender Reece Hall-Johnson on a one-year deal.
