SWINDON Town skipper Olly Lancashire insists his side were well briefed about the threat posed by Lincoln City following Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat at home.

Goalless with 10 minutes to go, Town buckled at home for the fifth time this season across all competitions.

The defeat means David Flitcroft’s side have only claimed seven points from their seven league games at the Energy Check County Ground as their home record continues to stagnate their progress this season.

Despite the increasing pressure on the side to improve at home, Lancashire says he and his teammates were fully aware of what to expect on Tuesday evening.

“We looked at them (Lincoln) on Monday and we knew they were very good at set-pieces, we’ve been good all year and that is the first goal we’ve conceded from a corner,” he said.

“Obviously it is frustrating for us to lose the game on a set play, it is really disappointing.

“We’ve played a lot of teams who get the ball forward quickly this year, it wasn’t a surprise and we knew what was going to happen.

“It’s frustrating to come away without scoring a goal and lose the game.”

While the club’s home record makes for grim reading, Lancashire insists the players can’t afford to think too much about it.

The skipper highlighted the 3-0 away win at Luton Town in early September, with the Hatters currently top of League Two, as a reason for optimism, believing it shows Town are more than capable of mixing at the top end of the table.

“We came into the game with two out of three wins at home, obviously we lost to Coventry but the boys came in to the (Lincoln) game confident,” he added.

“We had a great victory at Mansfield. We can’t think about the home form because that is what it is and we need to think of a strategy for when we are on top and killing the game instead of losing.

“It’s hard to put your finger on it but it is a mentality thing. We have proved we can beat the best teams in the league such as Luton.

“We’ve had some good results, we know that we can do it we just need to do it on a consistent basis.

“Saturday will be another tough game, they (Wycombe) will be similar we just need to make sure when we are on top we are ruthless in both boxes.”
