GOALKEEPER Reice Charles-Cook says the manner of Swindon Town’s battling 1-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend meant it was one of the sweetest of his career.

A strong wind meant for an unattractive spectacle at the Energy Check County Ground, with each side having clear advantage in the half in which they had it at their backs.

Town were able to make the most of that in the first 45 minutes when Harry Smith got the decisive goal, with the hosts then putting in a solid defence effort to shut out Wanderers in the second period.

Charles-Cook produced another impressive display between the sticks for Town and came away with his first clean sheet for the club and afterwards claimed the jubilation in victory was as good as he has ever experienced.

“The weather wasn’t great but it was probably my favourite game I have ever played in,” said Charles-Cook.

“That is what you call a proper smash-and-grab performance. We haven’t had one of them this season so to get one at home, where are form hasn’t been the best, is a big achievement and it’s probably our best win of the season.

“I have played a couple of times now and not had a clean sheet so to finally get one is a great achievement.

“I am sure the wind got worse in the second half but it all starts from the strikers, we all stood up and were counted.

“They had the threat of Ade Akenfenwa but to deal with that for 45 minutes is a great achievement from the boys and we can all celebrate and be happy.

“The mood is brilliant. To get a win like that can only make us stronger. We just can’t wait to get back and go again.”

Charles-Cook and the rest of the Town squad will make a swift return to the County Ground on Monday as they host an open training session in front of supporters.

Gates open at 1.30pm before the players take to the pitch an hour later, while an autograph signing session will take place afterwards at around 4pm.

The 23-year-old hopes to see a big turn out at SN1 and is keen to give fans another memorable afternoon.

“It will be a good day for the fans and it will be good to get to speak to them and get close to them,” said Charles-Cook.

“We don’t have any big-time players in the changing room who don’t want to do it – we are all looking forward to it.”
