SWINDON Town manager David Flitcroft will not shy away from freshening up his squad if he feels a shot in the arm is needed at the Energy Check County Ground in the new year.

Town’s form has suffered a dip of late on the back of four consecutive defeats, while injuries are also beginning to mount up with a number of key players currently sidelined or being assessed.

Flitcroft signed 17 players over the summer as he looked to overhaul the Town squad following his appointment as manager in the wake of the club’s relegation to League Two.

However, if the Swindon boss notices further shortcomings within the camp once the transfer window reopens on January 1, Flitcroft will have no qualms about bringing in additional new faces.

“It is what I have done for the last 10 years,” said Flitcroft.

“I have found out a lot about the squad in winning and defeat and time waits for no one.

“If we need recruits and we need competition and we need stimulus and we need a certain level of player that can play at home, then I will find them and recruit them.

“I won’t leave any stone unturned in trying to improve our fortunes.”

Town resume their League Two programme away at third-in-the-table Accrington Stanley on Saturday, with Flitcroft keen for his side to recapture their superb form on the road.

Swindon have won nine of 14 matches on their travels in 2017-18, although their most recent away day ended in a heavy 5-2 defeat at Stevenage in the FA Cup second round last weekend.

Town were beaten 1-0 at home by Forest Green Rovers at the same stage in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday night and Flitcroft felt that game helped shake off the disappointment of his side’s cup exit despite the result.

“We have had 10 days where things have not gone well and we will make sure we get back on track,” said Flitcroft.

“I think having the game on Tuesday night allowed us to get through the defeat at Stevenage, being able to focus on a game and not being solely on the training ground.

“That is out of the system now and it is a case of planning for Accrington and planning for an away fixture which, barring the Stevenage performance and result and conceding five goals, we have been excellent in.

“We have got to drum that belief and message into the players and make sure they perform for the travelling fans like they have done this season.”
