Attendance: 5,713

Goals: Town - Marc Richards, 24, 40; Paul Mullin 88; Vale - Michael Tonge 11, Christian Montano 43

EARLY on in the game both teams were not getting any more than five passes together until in the sixth minute when Luke Norris smashed a ball across the face of goal but no one was there to have the easiest of tap-ins.

Five minutes later Port Vale took an undeserved lead through a long free kick which was volleyed into the bottom corner by Micheal Tonge.

Town dominated the next 10 minutes and, in the 23rd minute, equalised after Luke Norris played a lovely high ball over the top to Matty Taylor.

He superbly picked out Marc Richards who headed the ball into the top corner.

Town had a penalty claim as Kyle Knoyle crossed the ball in to Richards who stumbled over in the box.

Five minutes before half-time. after a poor clearance from the Vale goalkeeper which went straight to Norris who played in Richards and he couldn't miss to make it 2-1.

Two minutes later Port Vale levelled again as a corner was swung in and it found former Swindon loan player Christian Montano who headed home.

The second half saw a very slow start until nine minutes in when Taylor whipped in a delicious free kick which was headed to Ollie Banks but he volleyed over the bar.

Fifteen minutes later substitute Kaiyne Woolery beat two men then struck a firm shot at goal however it was well dealt with at his near post.

In the 88th minute Taylor swung a high ball across the pitch to Knoyle who headed it to Paul Mullin who slotted it over the goalie into the bottom corner.

Town managed to see the game out and get the all-important three points to keep promotion hopes very much alive.

My man of the match was Kyle Knoyle. He was very successful in executing his crosses and played really well for the full 90 minutes of the game.
