SWINDON Town skipper Olly Lancashire is ready to put his injury torment behind him as he sets his sights on a League Two play-off spot.

Phil Brown’s troops have back-to-back home games as they welcome Carlisle United to the Energy Check County Ground on Saturday, before Yeovil Town make the trip next Tuesday.

The 29-year-old central defender, who arrived in Wiltshire last summer, is set to be back in contention after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with injury.

Lancashire’s last outing was back in February, where he limped off after half-an-hour at the Proact Stadium in a 2-1 defeat away at Chesterfield.

After suffering the injury, the Town skipper admits it has kept him out of action for longer than he initially expected.

“I came off against Chesterfield, where I tore my calf muscle, and when I came off, I thought it might have been two or three weeks out,” he said.

“I had the scans on the following Monday morning, which were worse than what we had originally thought.

“It feels like I have been out for a very long time. It will be six weeks by the time we play on Saturday.

“It’s good to be back training and it was good to be back on the bench for the game against Crawley on Easter Monday.

“We tried as best we can to get me back earlier. The first couple of weeks you have to get plenty of rest and then I was working with the physio.

“I was seeing different specialists, then this time last week I got the go ahead to get back into training.”

With the recent weather conditions, Lancashire reveals it hasn’t been the greatest for his body, as the club have been forced to resort to 4G pitches on a number of occasions.

“Obviously the weather and the pitches haven’t helped the injury but this week has been good,” added the Swindon skipper, who believes Town could have won Monday’s game had they scored earlier.

“I felt good, it was good to be back with the boys and everything has been good.

“On Monday we conceded a sloppy goal. If we had scored two or three minutes earlier, I felt we could have nicked a late winner.

“It wasn’t meant to be, so we will have to move on from that. I’m a big believer that you can’t look at the league table until you have played all of your games.

“There is a points total that we know if we hit it, we are almost guaranteed to finish in the play-offs.”
