GOALKEEPER Reice Charles-Cook and PFA chairman Ben Purkiss are among five players to be released by Swindon Town this summer, the club confirmed this morning.

Town have also confirmed that player of the year Matt Taylor is among six players to be offered a new contract at the County Ground with his his existing deal set to expire next month.

Attacker Donal McDermott, youngsters Tommy Ouldridge and Tom Smith have also been released by boss Phil Brown, while defenders Matt Preston, Ryan McGivern and Joe Romanski, midfielder Amine Linganzi, goalkeeper Stuart Moore have been offered new terms.

One-year options have been taken up on the deals of defender Kyle Knoyle, young striker Scott Twine and this season's leading scorer Luke Norris.

Charles-Cook was signed on a two-year deal by former boss David Flitcroft on August transfer deadline day last year, making his debut in the 2-1 defeat at Cheltenham Town, the first of 25 appearances for the club.

But he was in Brown's bad books after the manager revealed the player had missed training sessions towards the end of the season.

Purkiss signed on a free transfer last summer, making 45 league and cup appearances for the club but also heads for the exit door, while former youth player Smith, who spent the majority of last season on loan at National League South side Bath City, scoring eight goals in 21 appearances, leaves the club after 10 senior Town appearances and a solitary goal, along with Ouldridge, who was also shipped out on loan during Flitcroft's reign.

McDermott played 17 times in an injury-plagued campaign, scoring once.

Town have confirmed that Jordan Young remains under contract with the club after his name was accidently omitted from the original retained list published this morning.
