OLLIE Banks will return to League Two next season - but as an opponent rather than player of Swindon Town - after signing a two-year contract with promoted Tranmere Rovers.

Midfielder Banks made 17 appearances for Town in the second half of last season, scoring three times, before ending his loan stint from Oldham Athletic just prior to the end of the campaign.

The 25 year old , whose new deal is subject to a medical, also had a loan spell at Prenton Park last season, making eight appearances before being recalled by Oldham, from whom he was released at the end of the campaign.

Rovers manager Micky Mellon said: “I’m delighted to bring Ollie back to the club on a permanent basis.

“We saw during his loan period with us last season just what a talented player he is. He made a very positive impression on us as a coaching staff and also with the supporters.

“I’m really pleased to add him to the group and am looking forward to working with him again.”
