MAURICE Malpas has warned his players to put Saturday's clash with League One giants Leeds United to the back of their minds and give Oldham Athletic their undivided attention.

Town travel to Boundary Park tomorrow night to face a Latics side ravaged by injury, still smarting from the weekend's humiliating 3-0 defeat to play-off rivals Walsall.

Two teenage marksmen with just one goal between them will start for Oldham, with Lee Hughes and Craig Davies both consigned to the treatment table, and Malpas is determined to take full advantage.

He said: "The Leeds game is a big game but the Oldham game is a bigger game. That would set us up nicely for Leeds.

"Football is a strange beast because if you end up looking too far ahead you end up getting kicked in the teeth.

"We have to make sure the players are concentrating on this game and then we will concentrate on the next one.

"The great thing about football is you never look back because you can't change anything in the past. It is all about the three points."

Town will be without playmaker Jon-Paul McGovern for tomorrow's trip to Lancashire, while Michael Pook and Barry Corr are still not ready to return.

For the fully fit members of the Swindon squad, Malpas insists the pressure is on prove they deserve to wear the shirt.

He said: "Anyone can come into the squad and if I was them I would be desperate to play and desperate to prove that Saturday was a one off.

"I have watched the tape again from Saturday and we played poorly, very poorly.

"I never saw it coming but hopefully we will give them a base to play from on Tuesday and hopefully it will be something they are going to enjoy.

"I can say after the game it was a blip. We were shell-shocked after the game, they got a bit of wrath from me."

A chorus of boos greeted the final whistle at the County Ground on Saturday as the Town fans let the players and coaching staff know exactly what they thought of the performance.

Malpas admitted the supporters had "every right" to vent their frustration, but insists the players will not need any motivation to put things right.

He said: "This is one of the few occasions I won't need to do a team talk. The players were disappointed as well, lets not kid ourselves.

"They could not believe how poorly they played and they have to put that right.

"This is just the next match. The best thing I can say about the game is the players were desperate to get back involved again.

"It is a game we have to try and win and a game I expect to win. Thinking about the top six it is important we keep winning games and edge our way up after being knocked down.

"We have to do better away from home. There have been some performances I have been pleased with and we are just trying to get them in the right frame of mind."
