HALF TIME: Oxford 2 Town 0
12:50pm Saturday 3rd March 2012 in npower League Two Table & Results By Gary Rose
SWINDON have plenty to do to avoid suffering a second derby defeat of the season to Oxford as the Robins trail the 10-man U's 2-0 at half time this afternoon.
The hosts were dealt a blow with just over 10 minutes gone when James Constable was sent off after elbowing Joe Devera in the face.
But amazingly they found themselves 2-0 up barely eight minutes later when first Asa Hall struck from close range before Oli Johnson fired home soon after.
Town pressed to try and get a goal back before the break with Matt Ritchie, Ronan Murray and substitute Jon Smith all having chances.
Here are the key moments from the first half:
Three mins: Early chance for Town as Ronan Murray sends a deep cross to the unmarked Luke Rooney, but the winger’s shot is straight into the side netting.
12 mins (RED CARD, Constable): Disaster for the hosts as talismanic striker James Constable is sent off for elbowing Joe Devera in the face.
16 mins (GOAL, Hall 1-0): Despite being down to 10 men Oxford take the lead when Town fail to defend a free kick by Lee Holmes and Asa Hall is on hand to stab home from close range.
18 mins (GOAL, Johnson 2-0): Barely having recovered from the Oxford opener, Town fall further behind when Holmes low cross is allowed to run across goal where Oli Johnson slides a shot beyond Wes Foderingham.
21 mins: The visitors attempt to get a goal back quickly as Matt Ritchie curls a decent free kick towards goal, but Ryan Clarke does well to palm the ball over his bar.
33 mins: All Town as they push for a goal and Ritchie is denied by the woodwork when he drives a well-struck effort from just outside the box onto the upright.
Town (4-4-2): Wes Foderingham; Paul Caddis, Joe Devera, Alan McCormack, Alessandro Cibocchi (Jon Smith, 20); Matt Ritchie, Oliver Risser, Simon Ferry, Luke Rooney; Paul Benson, Ronan Murray.
Subs: Lee Cox, Raffa De Vita, Billy Bodin, Alan Connell.
