Bodin delays decision on new deal
BILLY Bodin will not make a final decision on whether or not to sign a new contract with Swindon Town until after his involvement with Crewe in the League Two play-off final.
The Welsh forward has been offered a two-year deal at the County Ground but he told the Advertiser that he is currently dedicating all his attention to helping his loan club secure a place in League One next season.
Crewe face Cheltenham at Wembley on Sunday and, when that business is taken care of, Bodin said he would take time to consider all his options.
“I’m just going to get Wembley out the way and concentrate on that, then I’ll have a sit down and chat with my dad and with Swindon and talk about it then," he said.
“All I’m thinking about at the moment is playing for Crewe and helping them in the play-offs."
On a personal level, Bodin has enjoyed and endured a somewhat crazy season.
After starting the term in the Swindon first XI, the 20-year-old has since fallen out of favour, spent a successful time at Torquay and briefly forced his way back into Town boss Paolo Di Canio's thinking before being sent to Alex to end the campaign.
Now a trip to the home of English football awaits the Wales Under-21 international at the end of a manic nine months, and Bodin reflected on a whirlwind season.
“It’s not gone the way I expected the season to go and, to be honest, it’s been pretty hectic. But it’s been good for me and I’ve enjoyed it," he said.
“We (Crewe) did get a bit lucky in the last 10 minutes of the second leg at Southend and we managed to get through and now we’re looking forward to Wembley.
“Hopefully I can get my place back in the team and have the chance to play there."
