Cox vows to fight for shirt Cox vows to fight for shirt

MIDFIELDER Lee Cox is determined to do everything he can to avoid becoming the forgotten man of the Swindon Town squad.

The former Leicester youngster made seven appearances after joining Town for £50,000 from Inverness Caledonian Thistle in March, but only two were starts.

Cox was not involved in Paolo Di Canio’s side again after the 2-0 defeat away at Crewe in March, but he is determined to force his way back into the Italian’s plans during pre-season.

“At times this season it was frustrating for me because I wanted to play a lot more than I did, because every player just wants to play games,” he said.

“I was out the side a while which was frustrating, but the manager did not say much to me about why, because it is up to me to make sure I am performing well in training.

“You have spells like that in football, but you need to not get down about it and carry on doing your job.

“I want to come back and have a good pre-season and be fit, because I want to show that I deserve to be here and that I can offer something here.

“I want to be in the starting team every week because I am a determined man, and I want to be knocking on the door and show exactly what I can do and I will do everything I can to do that..

“As a footballer you need to show everything you are capable of in every training session.”

Despite the disappointment of not being involved for much of the season, Cox is still glad he swapped the SPL for the County Ground.

“Getting the move to Swindon was great because they are a massive club, and I am really pleased that I chose to come here,” he said.

“I was able to be part of a promotion winning side which was a great experience for me, and everyone did well throughout the season to make sure we won the title.

“It was a bit hard trying to get involved in the celebrations when you have not been involved in the game when the title was won, but everyone is together here and it has been amazing.

“I can’t wait for the new season to start so we can test ourselves at a higher level.”

I thought he showed promise and if he reaches Paolo's fitness level then he'll get a lot more play time. Clearly you don't need to be that fit in the SPL.

Now play offs are over Swindon are 3rd favourites behind Sheffield United and McDonalds for 1st division title; but it depends on whether JW stays as Chairman and there are strong rumours Paolo is linked with the Villa and Wigan jobs! No news yet on increased funding for the new season either, all a bit worrying.

Stop worrying Laz, Paolo is back this week and it'll be business as usual.
More experienced managers have been linked with the clubs you have mentioned and I'm certain that they would get the nod over Paolo.
I'm sure also that J.W will stay, the L.M story will fade away a little over the next few weeks . I think that less said soonest mended applies to that story. Fans will be more concerned with imminent signings now although there may be one or two that will try to keep this story going.

LR, they were never on the pitch together, the 2 games he started was along side Smith and the 5 sub appearances he replaced Ferry.

Haven't seen enogh of him to really judge his worth, but I think Paolo sees him more of a creative midfielder if he is the understudy to Ferry, but unfortunately didn't get to see too much of that from him.

Will be interesting in those central midfield roles. What with Ferry, Smith, Cox, Risser fighting it out and McCormack able to step into the role... Not to mention Paolo is looking to add another central midfielder to the squad.. It's becoming quite a crowded position... Long have the days gone when Matty Hewlett filled those spots.. It's going to be an interesting season but we need to bolster the front line with goal scorers and not fodder players.

Very hard to see him getting much game time especially if we get Bostock back. Still he obviously knows what he needs to do so all the best to him. I am sure there will be at least one more CM who will be stronger physically. Pack didn't look too good yesterday. He passed well but very slow to cover or get forward. Was he fit? Well done to Crewe. Could we get Leitch-Smith?

Laz, I think any club wanting to take a gamble on PDC would be too small for him. I can't imagine a big club like Villa taking that gamble. Wigan? Well, maybe - but why on earth would he want to join a club that is essentially smaller than ours and punching well above its weight. We are likely to continue moving forward over the next few years, and there's a very good chance that we'll be in the same division as them a year from now. He'd be bonkers to throw away the chance of being part of the Town's progress for the sake of a struggle at the top level.

The PFA transfer list is not looking great for forwards - though it does get new players added daily so we may see somemore interesting names appear in the next few days
.
At present it is either fantasy world (not even including Drogba who is on it) or not that inspiring
.
Fantasy would include Ricardo Fuller, Alan Smith, Emile Heskey or Peter Lovenkrands
.
Through to your less inspiring signings like Clinton Morrison
.
Don't know what happened to him but since moving to Wednesday his goals dried up!
.
137 in around 450 prior and only 10 in 70 post!
.
Connelly and Scotland are not on there yet - but still think they would be great additions
.
Midfield is looking interesting / complex as we seem to have a lot but not really any potenet combinations
.
I still would like McCann - then again he has been banned for Drink Driving - so if LM can not sign then I'm guessing the masses would (or is that should) be against him
.
Sam Clingan from Coventry could be an even better signing - proper defensive midfielder, only 28, 31 International Caps for N.Ireland and no off field mistermeaners

Some good points, although I thought you used to be a fan of Morrison, maybe he would start scoring again under a different management ?

I see Pompey are slowly releasing players now as well, obviously the wage bill will have to be trimmed, so maybe some good guys there to be had. Ritchie would know most of them so could be a good ambassador for the club in that direction.
As you say the list for forwards is variable, but I would suspect Wray and PdC will have probably put together a wish list anyway. I just hope this week is a better week and football and players are the only focus.

A little bit de ja vu, same thing happened just a few years ago with some big teams getting relegated because of match fixing.
Couldn't happen here could it ? Well it did in the 60's with three players getting put away including ex Town centre forward David "Bronco" Lane.

I think it's more than possible icould happen here especially with all the foreign players , and before anyone starts I'm not being racist. We had a little problem not so long back with Liverpool stopper Grobbelar accused of taking bribes. When you see some of the soft goals he let in you do have to wonder.
I hope we can keep our game clean, it's bad enough with all the diving and conning of referee's.

Ground improvements are taking place at Rotherham. Allegedly, as rumour has it they had to order extra wide doors from Wickes so the fat man could get around the offices etc.
He has also added a dressing table with large mirror (well it had to be large for him to fit on it) put in his office so he can apply his eye shadow and mascara before games especially if they are on the tele. Other rumours have him linked with American football playing the role of "wide receiver".

.
He would be a pretty big name ariving at the CG!
.
However, I didn'y realie how little he has been scoring since 2010 - only 10 gaols in 2 seasons!
.
Maybe it is the club didn't suit him - but you would have thought the drop in divisions would have compensated!
.
If PdC did look again - I wouldn't be that disappointed as he was a proper goalscorer once and with the chance we create could be again
.
Still - Centre Forward is the main position we need - so would rather we were paying big bucks for who we want rather than looking in the bargin bucket like previously done

Always remember at Morecambe though when he came on early as sub then got subbed late on. He didn't look amused, despite some consoling words from Paolo.

Interesting to now see who we sign, as I can't see us relying on Ritchie, Rooney and De Vita(?)all season (assuming Paolo views Bodin as a striker). I'm only convinced about Ritchie being good enough for L1 level at present, although hopefully Rooney would be more consistent given a good pre season and a regular run.

Yes I know we did it last summer but that was under extreme circumstance - a crisis even - basically we had to wipe it out and start again
.
PNE don't have a new chairman, manager or league
.
Also not many on their signed list stand out as **** missed a good one there
.
I would have like Holmes but am happy to go with what we have - Rooney!
.
From the PFA list CB seems to be the main area talent is available (Gabbidon, Fitz Hall, Shittu, Sonko, Hreidarsson, Ramage and Doherty to name a few) - If we get one of those and Bostock we could free up Macca and swap to a 4231

No great loss in my opinion and he knew it, Rooney and De Vita offer more and I'm happy to see them fight it out for the LM berth, do we need support to challenge Ritchie, who knows, but I'm expecting him to be an ever present RM again, so not really an issue

Hi wiz i dont know how true it is but i read that he is being investigated by the police because he is alleged to have exposed himself to a female member of the Bradford city staff. That was the game with 5 sent off.
WOW !!! now if that isn't a bit juicy then I dunno what is ! excuse the pun.

Thanks for that Jayden, you have made my day. I'm a bit surprised nobody else commented on that. As a matter of interest, which paper was it in.
Unpleasant if true ! Crawley website indicates that he is busy signing up suitable players for Rotherham`s promotion push. Sorry to say it but I wish Swindon would do it too !

Deja Vu - we went trough the same last year about lack of signings with people comparing us to Rovers who made about 100 (on a bsis they moved) and look what happened!
.
This time round we have a brilliant base compared to last season which just needs some one tuning
.
Also I expect our key signings to be cash purchase not free transfers which are all that are occurring now
.
As was said last year - who has actually been signed by anyone in L1 or L2 which has made you go d@mn missed out there?

London can we stop this Macca back to midfield nonsense. Macca got player of the season because he was brilliant at the back. Can we please keep him there!

Also what on earth has Devera done wrong, I thought he was excellent at the back endof last season and am not even sure I wouldn't have him over Flint.

Very disappointing news about Holmes. I thought he was sure to sign for us and I rate him well ahead of Rooney and Da Vita.

So while we are spending all our time and energy over the McCormick affair, Holmes goes to Preston, McEveley says he has no club, and Williams not signed (not that I know enough about him to have a strong view.

No word from Paolo; JW threatening to resign. Meanwhile players on the pitch against Vale slip through our hands. These things can't not be related. Someone convince me otherwise.

cleansheet, mixed feelings from me here. We do need somebody with a bit of drive - and a decent shot - in the centre of midfield, so I could see McCormack slotting back into midfield if we had a very strong alternative to him and Flint as a pairing at the back. As much as Devera improved during last season, I couldn't prefer him to Flint. There will still be a lot of long high balls bombed in on us next season, and I see nobody better than Flint at coping with those. Flint is still raw but I don't see why he shouldn't up his game next term now that he has a full season under his belt.

mt, it's still very early in the close season. For all we know, PDC may have been quiet because he's busy working on the potential ins and outs. Or maybe he's simply relaxing on holiday. It doesn't bother me either way. Doubt if you'll be easily convinced that all those things you mention are unrelated! But I have a feeling they are.

Flint and Devera don't work as a pair - so if Macca moves we can simply play them
.
All I was saying is there are some excellent CBs out there compared to CM - so if we have one already why not use him and snap up a quality CB to play alongside Flint or Devera
.
If we were to land McCann or Clingan then Macca to midfield would not be contemplated

good attempt at not convincing me Den!

Isn't PdC on a working holiday - back in Italy but organising out pre-season tour at the same time
.
Also wasn't he due back today?
.
If so maybe we will get an "update" shortly

I would guess on his displays for us Holmes did not earn any further interest from Paolo and I for one was very dissapointed in the player. Rooney is a much better prospect after watching both players and Di Vita not far behind and a very skillful player and under rated. I am sure JW has been busy speaking to players and agents while Paolo has been away and things will start happening soon enough so don't panic those captain Mannering fans out there.Last season you have to remember Paolo was like a kid in a sweet shop and signing anyone who looked half decent on U-Tube. Be patient it will come and I have got some extra socks in.

Terrier, love it !!! tooth pick sticks to Rotherham!!!

Tweezers and magnifying glass job then , then dont call him Hubble for nothing!!!

So why was Holmes usually picked ahead of Rooney and Da Vita then? Doesn't make sense if Paolo didn't rate him.

I think he is the better player of the three but football is all about opinions. I just hope it's not because no-one is concentrating on transfers right now.

Flint looked to be improving his distribution and the partnership with Macca has been great. Wouldn't move them as first choice. Devera will play a few matches too and it looked as though McEveley was another possible alternative. (If he is coming) They have the ability to cope with L1 between them. The big jump is to the Championship.

Quiet at the moment but will son be hoting up soon even though Paolo is away im sure there are lots of discussions going on in the backgorund about new recruits dont forget we have to wait until their contracts finish in June before we can make moves fro players from other clubs unless their contracts have been terminated.Holmes didnt do much to me in all the time he was with us has great pace but not too worried i hope we sort McCleverley out though.

All a bit hush hush really - have split the dish with Paolo and doing the pasta tour of Italy - he doesn't drink much beer or wine which suits me as double helpings there!
..
Sorry for the delay folks - I wanted to wait for a week after the end of season to let everything calm down a bit but the new job has required me to be in Ireland for 2 of the 4 weeks to date and on top of this I've got preparations for next week's house move so all has gone a bit mad.
..
I'm hoping to get all of the results posted up this week / over the weekend now and then will arrange the date for a prize afternoon with a bit of a quiz.

Better not spend too much time on here during the day or else. :-)
