SWINDON TOWN: Timlin wishes Town well in League One

MICHAEL Timlin might not be joining Swindon in League One next season but the midfielder has wished his former employers well.

Timlin looked set to play a key role under boss Paolo Di Canio and started the first game of the season against Crewe, but was then loaned to Southend at the end of August before a permanent move was agreed in January.

The ex-Fulham man latterly missed out on a return to League One himself as Southend were sunk by Crewe in the play-off semi-final, but he hopes Swindon enjoy 2012/13 in a higher division.

“Once we got relegated from League One, the ambition was to go straight back up and after (interim chairman) Jeremy Wray made the appointment of Di Canio, my thoughts were that we had a good chance of doing that,” said Timlin.

“It ended up happening so good for them and Di Canio, who has done wonders there. They have done incredibly well.

“Since I left they have been the team I’ve played against who are definitely the most accomplished as a whole, and that comes down to the work Di Canio put in with us in pre-season.”

Timlin also insisted there was no ill feeling from himself towards Swindon despite the hasty nature of his departure.

“I was disappointed with how it happened and that’s just what happens in football sometimes. I won’t hold any grudges with anyone,” he added.

“I still have a good relationship with DI Canio and I sent my best wishes to him when I heard about his mum passing away, and then I did the same when they won promotion.

“Southend were interested in taking me in the summer and it was a tough decision to stay at Swindon, because my family wanted me to go but I was looking forward to working with Di Canio.

“But now I’ve got the next best thing which was to be at Southend with all my family and I’m really enjoying it.”
