Leicester 1 - Swindon Town 1

LEICESTER scored a late equaliser to deny Town all three points at the Walkers Stadium this afternoon.

Andy King finally broke down the stubborn away defence in the 86th minute just as Swindon looked like they might be heading home with a famous win.

Town were under the cosh for large parts of the game but took a first half lead when Simon Cox fired home at the second attempt - his 19th goal of the season.

Cox and Hal Robson-Kanu both had chances on the break to increase Town's advantage, and they were made to pay with seven minutes remaining.

However, Danny Wilson will surely be delighted with a point away at the league leaders and the superb battling performance of his side.

Here's the key moments from today's game:

12 mins: Matt Oakley feeds the ball into Matty Fryatt on the edge of the box. His lay-off into the path of Steve Howard is rifled towards goal by the big striker, but it is dragged just wide.

16 mins: Kerrea Gilbert's low cross from the right is dummied by Howard and it runs to Fryatt, but the striker's first-time shot from seven yards is superbly blocked by Jack Smith.

19 mins: Jamie Vincent rolls a free-kick short to Michael Timlin, who takes a touch and lofts the ball towards the far post.

It is met by the out-stretched leg of Kevin Amankwaah, but he is unable to get sufficient power and it rolls tamely to Leicester keeper David Martin.

23 mins: Simon Cox flashes an ambitious half-volley high and wide from 25 yards out towards the right touchline.

27 mins: Matt Oakley's corner is sent back across goal by the head of Howard. It is met by Andy King at the far post, but the midfielder's close-range volley slams against the post and away to safety.

33 mins: Oakley whips in a dangerous corner from the right and King gets ahead of Brezovan to meet it, but powers his effort over the bar with the aid of a deflection.

34 mins: Leicester have the ball in the back of the net, but their joy is short lived. Oakley hoists a high, hanging ball into the area, Brezovan fails to deal with it under pressure and the ball is tapped into the empty net.

However, referee Anthony Bates pulls it back for a foul on Town's keeper by Howard.

38 mins (GOAL 0-1 Cox): Town take the lead against the run of play. Hal Robson-Kanu wins the ball in midfield and feeds Billy Paynter. The front man chips it through for Cox, who has broken away from both Leicester centre-backs.

Cox's initial effort is parried by Martin, but the striker pounces on the rebound to slam the ball home and grab his 19th goal of the season.

45 mins: Tom Cleverley works space for himself on the edge of the box, but fires over and fails to test Brezovan.

48 mins: Lloyd Dyer receives the ball 20 yards out and lets fly, but he fails to get enough on the shot and it bobbles through harmlessly to Brezovan.

66 mins: Michael Morrison meets Oakley's left-wing corner with a thumping header which slams against the crossbar and down onto the line.

Leicester players are convinced it went in, but the referee is having none of it.

68 mins: Robson-Kanu tricks his way past Gilbert, cuts inside and shapes to shoot but, with the ball on his weaker right foot, the wide man fails to test Foxes substitute keeper Carl Pentney.

71 mins: Gordon Greer's ball forward is flicked into the path of Cox by Paynter. The striker needs no second invitation and pulls the trigger from 20 yards, forcing Pentney into a smart low stop.

76 mins: Town break quickly from a Leicester corner as Cox seizes on a mistake by Mattock. He strides forward into the hosts' half before slipping in Robson-Kanu, who takes a touch and drives in an effort which Pentney, again, does well to keep out.

83 mins: A long ball through bounces just inside the Swindon area. Fryatt hooks the ball over his head and it's heading for the top corner until a last-gasp fingertip stop from Brezovan diverts it over the bar for a corner.

84 mins: Leicester miss a sitter. The ball is whipped in and Oakley is unmarked, six yards out. His header has beaten Brezovan, but it skims the outside of the post and Town are given an almighty let-off.

86 mins (GOAL 1-1 King): Town fail to clear a ball into the box, and when it runs to Andy King his neat footwork takes him away from Greer before planting a shot past Brezovan.

LEICESTER (4-4-2): David Martin (Carl Pentney 59); Kerrea Gilbert, Michael Morrison, Jack Hobbs, Joe Mattock; Tom Cleverley (Ashley Chambers 79), Matt Oakley (c), Andy King, Lloyd Dyer (Bruno Berner 67); Matty Fryatt, Steve Howard.

Subs not used: Wayne Brown, Paul Dickov.

TOWN (4-4-2): Peter Brezovan; Jack Smith, Jerel Ifil (c), Gordon Greer, Jamie Vincent; Kevin Amankwaah, Michael Timlin, Patrick Kanyuka, Hal Robson-Kanu; Billy Paynter, Simon Cox.

Subs not used: Phil Smith, Lescinel Jean-Francois, Lilian Nalis, Anthony McNamee, Hamdi Razak.

Good effort and a fine result, we sounded like we were under the cosh towards the end. Good to have a manager that knows what he is doing and is building something here now.
Well done Town

Just as you could see after a few games that Malpas was hopeless, it is clear this early that Danny's is going to be an excellent manager - maybe one of our best. He oozes confidence and commonsense.

Such a great point, & always such a great fixture. I love when we play Leicester! Shame we couldn't have taken all 3 points, but an away point against a club well clear @ the top of the table is fantastic. Well done Coxy for notching up another goal, well done Swindon for a great all round effort, well done dw for some brave choices that paid off, & well done the travelling fans for getting behind them. Confident we can be a force in league 1 nxt season. Get greer signed up please dw :)

Confident we can be a force in league 1 next season ? Let`s hope and pray that is the league the Town is in ! Thank goodness DW is at the helm now and not that plonker MM. With most relegation candidates picking up points yesterday, a point at Millwall seems vital so COME ON YOU REDS !

What a difference a decent manager can make. A few months ago we would have got dumped 3 or 4-0 and said yes but Leicester are top and flying
so not a bad result considering!!
BUT NOW, we are quite dissapointed to only come away with a point having played so well and defended superbly at 1-0 up. Danny will become one of the best managers this club has had in many years and could even become the best ever. When he failed to bring in some midfielders that most fans were craving for recently Danny obviously had plan-B and his vision to experiment with Kanyuka and Amankwa in the middle has been quite strange to say the least but has been very very effective. These big guys in the middle gives similarities to Arsenal with Viera and co. There's no doubting the athleticism of these two players and they certainly played there part against Leicester. So refreshing to have a manager that knows the game and certainly seems to have the horses for courses method so far and is not frightened to make changes. Can't wait for next home game and then games come thick and fast and this will test us without doubt. We are still in a precarious position thanks to Malpas, but hopefully can keep this new belief going and climb up this table. COME ON YOU REDS!!

I think we are all united in agreement that Danny has turned things around. His loan acquisitions have been spot-on and unlike MM he is tactically aware. Let`s hope for at least a point on Tuesday so that our climb up the league is maintained and we are set up for Saturday`s big game.

Good comment about tbe midfield. I believe this is the key to our success over the last few games. AS for the regegation scrap the bottom three seen to be loosing ground. You can never dismiss Crewe because Gradi can get in quality loanees from the NW giants but I think Cheltenham and Hereford are as good as down. That leaves Orient and Brighton who I think we are better than. Lets push on get a result in the Millwall team amd put Gradi and the others under pressure. This is now on our own hands and we should get out of it.

What a cracking team performance by the lads at Leicester. The whole team deserve a pat on the back. Lets hope that Wilson has now sorted out Malpas ****-ups & start pulling Town away from the relegation area. Lets hope for more of the same attitude from the players, starting at Millwall on Tuesday. Bring on The Lions!
