Millwall 1 - Swindon Town 1

Town suffer another late equaliser at Millwall Town suffer another late equaliser at Millwall

ANOTHER late goal saw Town drop points again as they suffered an agonising 1-1 draw at Millwall.

Billy Paynter's first half header looked to have given Swindon a priceless three points in their fight against relegation.

But as the game entered injury-time, James Henry picked up the ball on the left, cut inside and sent an unstoppable 30-yard drive past Peter Brezovan and into the top corner.

The result sees Danny Wilson's side stretch their unbeaten run to four games as they bid to pull away from the League One drop zone.

Millwall started brightly and created the first chance on five minutes when Neil Harris evaded Gordon Greer's challenge down the right, and his cross was met by Adam Bolder on the penalty spot.

However, the midfielder was unable to direct his header, planting it straight at Peter Brezovan.

It was then another 17 minutes before the next effort came - Lewis Grabban collecting a bouncing ball on the edge of Town's area but blazing high and wide.

The Lions should have opened the scoring on 39 minutes following a spell of good posession.

Harris worked his way down the left, turned inside Jerel Ifil and sent a superb cross to the far post.

Midfielder Jimmy Abdou connected with a thumping header, but only a brilliant reaction stop from Brezovan kept him at bay.

But just as it looked as though the teams were going in level at the break, Paynter struck with two minutes of the half remaining.

Michael Timlin's free-kick from the left was met by the big striker un-marked in the middle of the penalty area, and he directed a header past David Forde in the Millwall goal.

The home side dominated the early proceedings of the second half, and Izale McLeod should have done better on the hour mark when he raced on to a through ball.

But, after holding off the challenge of Jerel Ifil, the front man couldn't keep his angled effort down and fired well over.

A rare Town attack in the 72nd minute saw Greer head Timlin's corner over, before they were on the back foot once more as Brezovan was forced into a low stop to deny Harris at the other end.

And the Slovakian stopper was Swindon's hero on 77 minutes when he produced an outstanding full-length save to claw away Tony Craig's free-kick for a corner.

As the game entered stoppage time it appeared that Town had sealed an unlikely victory but, yet again, a late goal was to prove their undoing.

On-loan Reading winger collected the ball on the left wing, cut inside Jack Smith and arrowed an effort into the top corner from fully 30 yards.

For the second time in four days it was a harsh end to proceedings for Danny Wilson's side, but Millwall were well worth their point.

Trouble is , it`s wins that we need to get up that league. I wonder if our fitness has to be extended a bit ? Whatever it is Danny will be working on it. Bring on Scunny !

I would have taken 2 draws sat morning but it's gut-wrenching that we throw away points with minutes to go. That's 14 goals conceded in the last 6 minutes and god knows how many points dropped.

Does'nt matter how you look at it, we've picked up 2 good points since saturday, but dropped 4 surblime points.

With another top 6 team to play this saturday and even worse, at home, i only hope the players can pick themselves up quicker than i'll be able to!!

Security word: pick-blue, did you at the adver listen to a word i just said!?

Shame but still a good result.

Would have been happy to take a draw any other time so I'm not unhappy.

At last we are now getting some consistency and can build on the increased confidence.

We will stay up!

Onward and upward.

I can't see what DW can possibly say to lift the squad that he has'nt been saying since saturday, but thats probably why i'm not a football manager i suppose!

Ok don't get me wrong, a point away to a solid promotion chasing side can only be a good thing, & dw is doing a fine job of making a decent side from the shambles that mm left... But o dear god, another late equaliser. It's breaking my heart! Gutting because it's becoming almost inevitable. Perhaps we could pilot a new tactic Whereby we let the opposition score 1st?! ;) despite all that a decent point. quick danny, get Brez's squiggle on a fat new contract please!

I think in our disappointment we are forgetting just what good teams Leicester and Millwall are. To nick points off both is marvellous really. Reality check = we`re not the finished article yet . Danny will finish it e`er long I`m sure. Watch out Scunny it`s not gonna be easy on Saturday ! COME ON YOU REDS !

A very good point gained, but yet again two more points lost, just like at the weekend against Leicester. So what has changed from the previous management, who kept losing valuable points late on in games? Nothing! Going down fast!

I've just seen the goals on Sky Sports News, and fffffffflippin 'eck Millwall's goal was absolutely stunning. He was miles out and it flew in like a missile.
Hopefully S-****-horpe are still celebrating reaching Wembley come Saturday and we shove it right up 'em.

brez pulled off on of the best saves i have ever seen a keeper make. ifil played well, jack smith great game, gordan also a great game. A goal that could not be stopped. World class strike. Swindon need to look to build on a one goal lead. Last 20 mins they looked so different to the rest of the game. First 70 mins they looked very well balanced and confident on the ball. Some great passing an tackling. How many times this season have Swindon f****d points up in last 5/10 mins. Anyone know the stats on this? how many goals have swindon conceded this season in this time and how mant points has this cost us this season?

These last minute goals - is it down to confidence - again this is going to take a bit of time and luck.
I think DW said he wanted them to pass the ball out of the defence not just slash at it, ending up usually with the ball coming straight back in.
I think this 'slashing' happens more in the final 10 mins. We could do with a 'super sub' for those minutes to come on and settle the nerves.

Well if we had been told that out of oldham/liecester/Mil
lwall we would have gotten 3 points we would have been over the moon.
So sad to let it slip, however they are puttinga mini run together and is so good to have a "REAL MANAGER"
well done good effort and result
