TOWN were left to rue a host of spurned chances as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw against ten man MK Dons at the County Ground this afternoon.
Billy Paynter's header from an Anthony McNamee cross edged Swindon in front, but Aaron Wilbraham levelled from close range for the high-flying visitors before half-time.
Simon Cox, Hal Robson-Kanu and Paynter all missed good chances to get Town back in front, but suffered a couple of scares of their own at the other end.
The Dons had captain Dean Lewington sent off with four minutes remaining as their promotion push stuttered.
Here are the key moments from today's game:
Three mins: Sean Morrison's long throw into the heart of the penalty area causes problems for Dons keeper Willy Gueret, who is forced to punch out for a corner.
15 mins: Aaron Wilbraham gets down the right and puts a dangerous cross into the area which has Town keeper Peter Brezovan stretching. The custodian only manages to divert it into the path of Jemal Johnson, but his shot is skewed well wide of the target.
18 mins (GOAL 1-0 Paynter): Anthony McNamee picks the ball up on the left flank and is given enough time to look up and pick out Billy Paynter arriving at the far post.
The big front man attacks it with his head and sends a superb effort into the opposite corner past the stranded Gueret.
21 mins: MK Dons almost provide an instant reply. Alan Navarro's free-kick is laid off by Sam Baldock into the path of Leven and his first time shot flies inches wide of the upright with Brezovan at full stretch.
24 mins: Town should have doubled their lead, but Hal Robson-Kanu misses from a yard out. A well-worked throw-in sees Simon Cox wriggle away from the attentions of Jude Stirling inside the area.
His low cross from the by-line goes into the path of the unmarked Robson-Kanu, and all the wideman needs to do is get a touch, but he somehow completely misses his kick and MK Dons escape.
27 mins (GOAL 1-1 Wilbraham): Town concede for the second successive game from a long throw. This time, Stirling's delivery isn't dealt with by Brezovan, and when Johnson drills the ball back in to the danger zone, Wilbraham is on hand to divert it home.
31 mins: Sean Morrison connects with Robson-Kanu's corner, but his thumping header is cleared off the line by former Swindon skipper Sean O'Hanlon for a corner.
35 mins: Another chance goes begging for Town. Kevin Amankwaah's long ball down the right catches the Dons on the break and Robson-Kanu races away from Stirling. He crosses to Cox, unmarked five yards out, but the front man's effort smashes against the cross bar before being scrambled away to safety.
45 mins: Kevin Amankwaah tries his luck from 30 yards and his low effort forces Gueret into a scrambled stop at his near post. The ball pops loose and Cox pounces on it, but his effort is diverted behind for a corner.
53 mins: Michael Timlin feeds Paynter inside the area and, from an angle, the striker's left-footed effort rattles the near post.
Cox follows up and sees his first shot blocked before his second is scrambled away to safety.
62 mins: Baldock flashes a left-footed volley across the face of goal which narrowly misses the far post.
66 mins: Once more, Swindon spurn a glorious opportunity. This time Paynter turns provider, picking the ball up on the right before delivering an inch-perfect cross to the back post.
Robson-Kanu doesn't get the best connection on his header and Gueret tips it away, before the same player stabs the rebound against the post from a tight angle.
74 mins: McNamee switches flanks and wriggles away from the attentions of Dean Lewington just inside the area.
The little wide man takes a step forward and curls an effort towards goal but it bobbles wide at the far post and is begging for a touch to put it in.
81 mins: Paynter holds off a couple of challenges and combines with Cox to set up Robson-Kanu on the left.
The Reading-loanee takes it in his stride before unleashing a shot, but his effort is deflected away for a corner.
85 mins: Town survive a massive let-off. Brezovan comes a long way to claim a long-throw, but gets it horribly wrong and fumbles the ball to the feet of Luke Chadwick.
The former Manchester United man stabs it goalwards but it strikes the post and goes out for a goal kick.
86 mins (SENDING OFF - Lewington): MK Dons captain Dean Lewington receives a red card after bringing down substitute Mark Marshall. He had already been booked for dissent earlier in the game and now gets a second yellow card for his troubles.
90 mins: With the last kick of the game Stirling launches a long throw into the heart of the penalty area. Wilbraham's near-post flick-on almost sneaks in until Brezovan manages to keep it out.
TOWN (4-4-2): Peter Brezovan; Kevin Amankwaah, Sean Morrison (Jerel Ifil 82), Gordon Greer (c), Jamie Vincent; Hal Robson-Kanu, Michael Timlin, Lilian Nalis, Anthony McNamee (Mark Marshall 75); Billy Paynter, Simon Cox.
Subs not used: Phil Smith, Blair Sturrock, Hamdi Razak.
MK DONS (4-5-1): Willy Gueret; Shaun Cummings, Sean O'Hanlon, Jude Stirling, Dean Lewington; Sam Baldock, Luke Chadwick (Carl Regan 88), Alan Navarro, Peter Leven, Jemal Johnson (Daniel Powell 58); Aaron Wilbraham.
Subs not used: Nathan Abbey, Ali Gerba, Flavien Belson.

Too little to late, good preformance but the truth is we are going down. Leeds & Colchester away, could be tailed of by the next home game.If Fitton cannot put his hand in his pocket to get some players in, then I hope he leaves us at the end of the season. 5 year plan, what a load of c**p.I hear he did'nt even finance the Green loan extension, what hope of buying him.

WHO THE FU** DO YOU THINK YOU ARE SLAGING OFF STFC FANS.YOU SOUND LIKE A PURE BIG MOUTH PR!CK .
Why don't you put you hand in your pocket! You probably didn't even buy a season ticket when the offer was on. It is people like you that think everybody else in the world should do everything for you. We culdn't even muster 6000 people to buy a season ticket. If we had reached that figure then I am sure the board would have seen and had the desire to put more of THEIR money into the club. We have got what we deserve because the people of Swindon and the many 'supporters' we have, especially those that love to come on here and moan, don't put their money where their mouths are. Normally up ther backsides. Rant over for present.

I am sometimes embarassed to be a Swindon fan as all we do is moan about players and performances. The way we are playing has improved under Wilson, granted we are not getting the points we need for survival, but we are playing better and the results will come. Hopefully the results will come in time to save us from the drop. Stop the moaning we are getting better, and its time to get behind the manager and players to get us past the post in staying up!!!!!!!!

One of the first games I was taken to see was Fulham '76 I think, (With Best, Moore etc) on a tuesday night. We won 5-0 with 26,000 there. I have seen many silver linings and this is not looking like one. Relegation is not a step forward for this club. Fitton anounced a 5 year plan to see us settled in the championship. That should be the minimum objective.4th division is where we will be unless Fitton gets his act together Where exactly has he been for the last couple of months? Blind faith in Fitton will be a bad move!

gutted that we didnt win,but very pleased the way the lads played.they deserved the 3 points today.if only we could put the ball in the back of the net.we should of and could of had 4 or 5 goals today.captain unsensible,i wouldnt say it has been dismall week in week out.its been a big improvement since wilson took over.we pretty much murdered mk dons.bazzasdebest,co xy was not rubbish today (apart from not scoring) and he hasnt been rubbish all season like you suggest.davidsyrett, fitton has done us proud and turned the club around.i would rather have fitton than somebody like you supporting the club.if thats what you do.oh and why would we buy greer when hes out of contract in the summer?
