Sky sports roundup - I didn't see that, I'll keep my eye out for it. Is that on Foxtel here Bob or did you see it on the net? And how's Bowral?

Yes on Sky news, press red button,go to SKY UK (small screen) hit select and you get the round up each morning around 8-30 am our time.

If you're good enough, you are old enough. Miles looked good when Bodin introduced him to the team and he certainly looks good enough now judging by last nights effort.

Shows you dont always have to go out and buy/loan in talent - you might actualy have something just as good on your own doorstep.

Miles deserves a start on Saturday, as does Louis Thompson

Sounds like a very mature and grounded young man.
Maybe unfair but makes me wonder what could have happened with BB if he had been more like this

We certainly missed Thompson last night, All of Villa's play came from their left and I'm afraid Devera could not cope with it. Come January if Caddis does not return and we are able to bring in additional loanees, a right back to push Thompson is absolutely essential.

Exhilarating performance - couldn't feel down about losing because the whole team played their hearts out. I think Miles deserves some starts alongside Andy Williams - they make a lethal combination of speed, skill and controlled aggression. James Collins gave his all but I don't think he will ever have that quickness of thought/burst of speed that would make him deadly. Si Ferry was amazing last night, so much vision, so many great runs and passes and so many tackles. I was pleased for Miles that he got MoM but I would have given it to Si. What a great prospect Storey is and we're still in the opening chapter ....... Let's hope he doesn't lose the plot!!!!

I hope he continues as an impact sub and making a few starts - like against Macclesfield - so he can continue to grow and develop

Then next season will be the time he should look to break in more as he will have been a pro for a year, got use to the pace and intensity and got some vital experience along the way

Remember all our other prospects were 21 when they came - Parkin, Cox an Ausitn - Miles is only just 18

Our other one here now N Thompson is now 22 so had a few years in the background to "get up to speed"

Aye very well done to Storey, with a bit more luck, we could have nicked that result. It still hurts the morning, but I find solace in the fact that we played so well, and the fact that I know any Reading fans will be hurting a whole lot more!!

Can't use the word disappointed this morning after that performance. So proud of my team. Now lets keep that form going in League One and we can destroy teams at our level.

Yep agreed with that - was lucky enough to be sitting in front of our very own Mr Wray who is a full blooded Swindon Town fan for sure - but it was almost said in unison between me and my guests and he and his...Thompson's pace was the missing element and was sadly missed....don't get me wrong Devera should be proud of his display but pace wise not a chance.

Storey continues to show some on here that he is good enough and old enough all he needs is the continued care from PDC and the continued patience from all of us as fans...again my two guests just gasped when he set off for his first run but that was equalled by Macka's run through the middle...ELECTRIC!

So, so gutted for the team and for all of us (imagine getting Bradford at home in the Quarters?)...but SO, SO PROUD to be STFC!!

Certainly no need to feel depressed by last nights performance and every reason to feel proud.
Storey deserves a start on Saturday , hwe has a natural ability to score goals and his ratio is better than all of our other strikers .
The Don and Paul Rideout were regular starters at 16 and I believe Miles should be given a run now . I've always said if you're good enough then you are old enough.
Same applies to Nathan Thompson, by far the best right back at the club at present and if he'd been fit last night then Agbonlahor would have known he'd been in a game. As it was he was afforded far too much room and wasn't tackled effectivley once.
Was Stuart Pearce there to watch Storey or Wes last night or was he watching Villa ? Be nice for our lads to be recognised but we'd be in the mire if Wes was called into international duty, we've got no experienced back up and not likely to get one anytime soon.

We are well equipped to make a promotion challenge. Picking holes in the performance of individuals in one off game against international standard players is very harsh. I don't want to sound patronising but I believe Devera is a solid lower division defender - no more and no less. We have several players who have no hope of competing with the likes of Villa on a weekly basis.

I think we should just take last night for what it was - a good old fashioned cup tie, where we came within a whisker of causing an upset but where the opposition simply had that classy rapier-like quality to pick us off with three great goals. It was just cruel that we should lose it at the death after such a great comeback.

To be fair to Devera I think Agbonlahor would also have given Nathan, Caddis and other right backs far better than them some serious problems. The lad is strong and quick.

Let's not forget Agbonlahor is Prem quality and has played for England and Devera is a steady but average League 1 / 2 defender.

The way Storey has taken his goals looks very incouraging to me, but i'd like to see him used sparingly over the next 5-10 games. Although he received many plaudits for his performance at Stevenage, personally I thought his agility and hold up play was poor. He struggled most of the game to get away from his "marker" in open play (and i use that in the looset of senses) as he wasn't being marked as such, i.e. look at his goal again, where was the defence.

It was interesting to compare him to Rooney when he came on who in my eyes did far more in the few minutes he was on than Storey did the whole game.

Thats not to take it away anything away from him, he has made impression over the last two games, but as he has said himself he has a lot to learn. If used sparingly, mostly as sub he can carry on learning without too many expectations or pressure to score goals. I still think we have enough about all the strikers at the club to see off most teams in League one. All we need now is consistency.

Very true Scribblemilk. I think that is what Paolo has been saying as well. It would be unfair to stick him in front of all those more experienced guys and lump huge expectation onto him at this age. Use him sparingly, building his knowledge and ability and get him to learn a little bit of all our other strikers qualities.

A start on Saturday would be very much deserved and would seem a sensible option, giving us the ability to rest the likes of Collins and Williams for the big match next Tuesday whilst giving Miles more match time at a competitive level.

LR, according to SKY, Tranmere have asked to have Cassidy until the end of the season, he has done well there, so would be very surprised if his club would not give them the first option.

Ref Agbonlahor, you are right, we don't see many up against us with his ability, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try to improve our cover at right back, because that's the kind of players we will be up against regularly should we get promotion. Think the last one of note I saw was Zaha of the Palace, another very good winger with plenty of pace..

Aye if we do manage to go up then we will get more of those sort of players. (We could do with one to mix things up a bit)

It will not have done Devera any harm Im sure, and im positive Paolo will make sure that Devera learns from that game and will be better equipped next time he needs to deal with a pacy winger.

First goal, Ferry didn't pick up Ireland. Second goal G A cut inside and Flint was slow to get out to him. Third goal not sure.

The continual slating of Devera is beyond me. He could also do with a bit more help from Ritchie in defence as could Jay from Roberts. I'd pick Rafa over him both going forwards and defensively.

Also Ferry brilliant second half but poor first half but then again I suppose as a fans favourite we're all blinkered to that?!

I've commented on Devera myself and some may have taken it the wrong way - wasn't trying to have a pop at all. He was always going to have a difficult time against Gabi and any player at this level would. Right back is a position we need cover in though and although Devera will give us more than decent cover during the course of the season I don't think DiCanio sees him as first choice. Hats off to him though, he worked hard and you have to respect that. A better understanding with Ritchie could see him improve as well. It's a team game after all.

SAPF amazing how we see it differently. I thought he made numerous overlapping runs (especially first half) and never got the ball from Ritchie. I commented that he must be well hacked off!

Anyway last two performances really turning heat up and looking forwards and upwards.

Storey did seem to struggle with the pace of the game at time despite coming on late,but what a finisher and what a great prospect.

I feel it's a bit naive to suggest that the only difference between the sides was Villa's better finishing. The higher the level, the sharper and more athletic the players are, and I thought it was there for all to see last night. All Villa's goals were the product of swift, incisive play and superb timing (admittedly aided by some slack marking). Just to take the first one, Ireland could have got the ball in much earlier than he did but he waited until Benteke was in exactly the right place and released it to perfection.

I agree Den,did not mean to imply otherwise ,like you said at times Villa played like a EPL side where as we also gave it our best and could ask for no more.
My voice is just coming back and moments like when we equalized money can just not buy and wjhy it makes supporting a "small" team worth while just once in awhile!

OTR - I only saw they wanted to exten it beyond Jan if that's changed that's that one gone - maybe the summer?

As for RB surely we should worry about Championship opposition once we get there - Devera's deal is up in the summer and if we have gone up then would be the time to say - sorry dont think you are up to it and release him - like we did this summer to a few who were not felt to be L1 standard

That shouldn't just be Devera but A.N.Others felt not to be up to scratch

However - for now I think Devera is fine as cover to Thompson as he has put in some decent performances this season there (was part of the team that kept 5 clean sheets prior to Stoke)

Good post Den. Most of the Villa players were strong lads, they had a spring in their step and a burst of pace when they needed it. Great first touches, and also good awareness.

Benteke was an interesting one. At first I wasn't sure but he was wiry, deceptively strong and a good turn of pace. A little unorthodox but his flicks and passes usually found his man and 2 quality finishes.

I also liked the Villa movement, they floated around and found space as a result.

But saying that we bossed the 2nd half and can be very proud of the performance.

Great night apart from the bottle throwing and the fans stinking of booze and leaving at 2-0 and swearing every other word at least i wont have to see them sat ,and the chip shop q will be smaller.

That Beneteke cost £7m - you'd expect him to be fairly good for that kind of money

Just hope we take the momentum built in the last 2 games to Macclesfiled - give them a good pasting and set us up for the massive game against Sheff U
