SWINDON TOWN: Di Canio has bad memories of Macclesfield
PAOLO Di Canio has endured two pretty miserable matches as Swindon Town manager against Macclesfield, and he is hoping it’ll be third time lucky on a personal basis when the two sides meet in the FA Cup tomorrow.
In September last year, Town were beaten 2-0 by the Silkmen at Moss Rose, cueing Di Canio to describe his players as chihuahuas in his post-match press conference, before he was sent to the stands in the return fixture at the County Ground later in the campaign.
So the Italian is looking forward to banishing the demons of the past in SN1 on Saturday.
He said: “We lost 2-0 there, it was still the beginning and we still had problems. We lost badly even if we battered them near the end.
“At home we won, I think Benson scored the goal, but we didn’t create many chances and then I was sent off so there aren’t many fantastic memories.
“You have to think that they still have the players that played last year. They have quality, they have physical presence.
“Even if we play 100 per cent it will be tough. If we underestimate them we could have a big upset which, in some ways, could cancel what we have done and what we have achieved in the last two games.
“It would be very stupid and silly if we don’t approach the game well and we don’t give our best.”
