Best of luck to him, hasn't quite hit the form of last season and could be a good move for both parties. We have to look at this as a strait swap Benson for Martin. Hopefully with his experience of winning this division Martin will prove to be the better choice!

Players coming and going as the DiCanio rollercoaster ride approaches Christmas are to be expected I suppose. I didn`t see this one coming though even if it is only a loan at present. A fit and inform Martin., if that`s what he is , will be fine i.m.o.

Good luck to him and Pompey - apart from in one more game this season and on the assumption that we're not going to be promotion rivals or fellow relegation battlers.

He is only there till January, and I expect he won't be able to play against us.

Good luck to Paul Benson and wellcome Chris Martin let's hope he can give the same effort as PB

Blimey - Didn't see that coming although as others have said - he is a yard off the pace this season.
..
Playing for Portsmouth will bring his fitness up to scratch and hopefully a bit of confidence back.

good move for benson as he will want to play games at his age and not sit on the bench might not of been great this season but never showed a lack of effert good luck to him.
as for chris martin i think this maybe a realy good move for us as he has proved he can score goals at this level and the championship.
he seems too have been around for years but he is only 24. hopefully he scores a few goals and we make it perminent in january this could be the natural goal scorer we have been looking for good work PDC

Fair comment Sean, but I suppose you never know for sure on either count.

Good luck to Benno, wish him the best of luck, but as always the manager only seeks improvement.

Have mates who work at Norwich, Martin is by all accounts a prat but he scored an awful lot of goals at this level.

Back to back to back promotions coming. Watching the birth of a managerial legend. etc etc

As has been mentioned above Martin has been known to be a bit of a idiot, I hope he doesn't do anything idiotic whilst here, and he doesn't cause any unrest in the dressing room!

Yes Den, with reluctance I have to agree. This is one player who has really won the hearts of many during a very short stay. Never short of commitment, desire or goals. Sadly those old legs are showing their age, but he will be remembered here for all the right reasons. An excellent role model for any young professional.

He did a great job last season and seems a good chap. But have to say his 'replacement' looks like a better option to score some goals. Our biggest shortfall at present.

Good luck benno and thank you

Good luck Paul Benson who is a great professional and i hope he does well at Pompey.

Martin is a very good signing and a proven goalscorer at L1 level and when Norwich got promoted 3 years agao he was the leagues top scorer and has also scored at championship level so i see this as a great addition to our squad.

Quite honestly I cant see Benno being any more effective at Pompey although I hope I`m wrong for his sake. Martin seems likely to be a solution to the Town`s finishing problem. As the say " We shall see " !

Good luck to Paul. As PDC says a great professional and puts in the effort. However, he just didnt seem the same this season in my opinion and I couldnt see him getting much of a look in after a couple of games where he seemed wayward. Perhaps a change of scene might help him revitalise...

Benno is a top top L2 player and has always "struggled" in L1 - it's no coincidence we got him from a team who were looking to go up like we are!
.
A move like last Jan would probably be best for him to help another side like he helped us
.
He certainly played a role in us winning the league
.
He is probably Swindon past now but will be one remembered fondly
.
Southend????

Benno was the Striker who got us up last year.

Established himself as a favourite in a very short period of time.
A decent bloke on and off the pitch.

Hope it works out for him.

Can't agree. Benson offers something different to our other striking options and adds goals and much more to a team that looks disorganised up front without him. Not the quickest, but plenty of pacey options to pair him with.
Games like Sheffield Utd were crying out for a player like benson to win some balls in the air, hold up play and consolidate attacking play - and get on the end of some of those chances.
Hope the lad from Norwich does well though and, for all I know, he could do a better job for us!

This all fits in very well for me, although I am very sad to see the excellent Paul Benson discarded.

Martin joins us from Norwich, in advance of their current Assistant Manager Colin Calderwood, who is an ideal replacement for PDC next time he throws all his toys out of his pram!!

And PDC does have a lot of toys!!

being a shopkeeper in norwich, i get to hear city fans views on a daily basis..
unfortunately, most of them view martin as pretty useless. he had a purple patch in the championship for about 4 games but hasn't done much since then. the one game he played the other day against doncaster it was commented about how fat and unfit he was looking. add to that the fact he is a bit of an idiot, i can only see this loan signing ending sooner rather than later. the fact we have lost benson who is the complete opposite in terms of fitness and commitment is quite puzzling.
i hope i get proved wrong and he bangs a few in and i can laugh at my city fan mates that its all down to the manager....

Interesting some of the negative comments of a new player coming to Swindon.I for one look on the positive side.He should be better than what we have,so lets give it a go.

Do we all recall the comments about Alan McCormack from the charlton fans, they were glad to see the back of him.We think he is great.

Maybe Martin needs to be wanted just like Alan was with us.A decent gamble I would say.

Might it not be possible that Benson also 'needs to be wanted' as you suggest guys?

He is certainly not wanted by PDC any more, which is simply crazy!!

Martin scored 23 goals when in Division 1 so that is a very decent record. Still only 24 and wants to play matches and only has 6 months left at Canary land. Brighton in April 2012 were reportedly looking to a 1.2 million deal for Martin in the Daily Mirror. Benson is 33 and has struggled this season and been easily pushed off the ball and heading has been wayward when he has managed to win one.. Great last season but Charlton got rid so may be his level is Div 2 at best now. Shame as he did us proud last season and is a likeable guy but the future for the Di Canio express is the Championship so Benson would not figure past this season and that's a fact. Hollands looks a great capture and box to box player so that really is another decent signing and scores goals also, very good day at the office I say.

Message from Norwich season ticket holding Mate of mine;

martin will be great for you, upfront, in the hole or left cutting in. Hasn't been anywhere near the first team though so will need half a dozen to show his best. Scored about 15 for us in l1 and about the same assists. But then we were the champions!

Ill take that as a positive

That's an interesting one, could be in as a left winger? Presuming as Benson has gone he's like for like but maybe not.

Isn't that the good thing about loan signings ?

If they don't work out you say "thank you but no thank you".

Wes, Jay, Ritchie, Ferry and possibly Bostock were all signed after loan arrangements.

Some work, some don't but unlike a signing no real damage is done.

I wish PB all the best, top player and a true pro whose career could be resurrected by the switch.

That kind of optimism and rational thinking won't wash on here. We're doomed and we know it...

Just love the attitude of some of the town fans - club announces we've signed two new players on loan, half the readers of this website decide they're **** before they've even got a chance to prove themselves for us. Why oh why can't we just reserve judgement till we've seen them play?

Think it comes down to expecting the worst, if people have a moan and the players come good, they've lost nothing - if they moan and the loan signings don't work, they've always got the "I told you so" in the back pocket.

I particularly like the "someone who I talked to the other day said he looked out of shape so I'm going to repeat what he said like it's my own opinion. Oh, and he's an idiot cause of something I half remembered from the local news a year ago." Give the poor ****** a chance would you!?!?
