SWINDON TOWN: Hollands has an eye for goal

NEW signing Danny Hollands is hoping he can bring goals to the Swindon midfield after completing his loan switch from Charlton.
The 27-year-old tied up a deal yesterday having agreed his move on Wednesday night, and will be considered for tomorrow’s game with Yeovil having trained with his new teammates both today and yesterday.
Manager Paolo Di Canio has often challenged his central midfielders to produce more goals, and while Hollands is keen not to put too much pressure on himself, he believes he could be the man to do it.
“I like to try and be a box to box midfielder and I want to get myself on the scoresheet, but I like to play my part in defence as well,” he said.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on myself, but I like to get in the box and get a fair few goals, and if I get minutes I think I can score a few.
“My first task is to get my head down and get in the starting 11, and we are also fighting for places.”
Hollands was part of the Charlton side which won League One last season, and while he is hoping his championship-winning experience will help Town in the short-term, he is open to the idea of a long-term future with Swindon.
“At the moment it is a loan deal, but I am just here to enjoy my football and see where it goes from there,” he said.
“I was lucky enough to get promotion and I am hungry to do the same with Swindon.
“I know the league pretty well, and it is a tough league but there is enough quality to do what we did last year.
“Just from training you can tell there is a lot of depth, and although there are a few injuries you can tell that when they come back you have a very good squad here.”
The midfielder consulted close friend and former Town striker Alan Connell before agreeing to the move, and is impressed with what he has seen of the Town squad.
“I heard Swindon were interested in taking me and it is a big club and I already knew some of the players down here so it was interesting to me,” he said.
“When I first moved to Charlton Alan McCormack was there and I played with Matt Ritchie some years ago, so I know there is a great squad here and you can see that from the results.
“The person I spoke to most was Alan Connell who I know well, and he told me everything I needed to know. I have played against a few of the players and the standard has been good in training.
“I haven’t played in the last few games for Charlton and this is a great chance to play, and the direction they are going in is something I want to be part of.
“I need to get in the team first of all, but if I can play a part I will be very pleased.
“There is tough competition in every position, but if I can play some games hopefully I can add something.”

So PdC couldn't have been that unfair to Connell that he gave the club a ringing endorsement . Surely if it was that bad here he would have told his good friend to stay well clear!

You will always get some who loved it and others who hated it - like everywhere
.
But if more have said good things than bad - you would expect that to be a more realistic relfection of what it is like
.
All it really shows that his alleged bust ups are blown out of proportion as Connell is oftnen named in that group - but doesn't sound like there ever was one
.
Really it is only Timlin, Clarke, Kerrouche and Caddis who he has had bust up with - most others have just left for a variety of reasons

All of those are opposite sides of the same coin - at times his character is at his best, at times you can see how it can be criticised. Some players will like the regime, some will not. I don't think any player is wrong necessarily whether they get on with him or not, just some will be able to deal with his ways and thrive under them and some will not - personality clashes and differences in attitude make that happen. No-one has the final word on whether it's a good or bad environment to work in because it's completly subjective based on the person in that environment. But under PDC we've done relatively well and he seems to be managing to keep the majority of players on board and in line with his way of thinking. Some won't flourish with him, and that's not saying they're a bad player, just a different type of player.
Like LR said, more seem to have good things to say than bad, and for the majority even if it's not a picnic working under his regime, he seems to command their respect, and they seem to understand why he does things the way he does. He won't please everyone but manages to keep most of his players in check.
