HEAD TO HEAD: A brief history of Brentford's trips to the County Ground
6:00am Tuesday 20th November 2012 in STFC News
SWINDON Town have an extraordinarily high win percentage of 67.5 in games against Brentford at the County Ground down the years.
Since the teams first met in SN1 in September 1901 in the Southern League, the Bees have visited the Robins 57 times but have only emerged with a win 10 times.
Brentford’s first victory in Wiltshire came in November 1904, thanks to a pair of Franks - Oliver and Hobson, who scored three goals between them in a 3-1 success.
After that win, however, the Bees went 18 games without stinging Town in their own backyard.
That long and miserable run for the west London outfit lasted 25 years and included a streak of 13 consecutive Swindon victories in the tie between 1909 and 1927.
Four successful trips to the County Ground in seven matches followed, as Brentford started to figure out how to pick up points in Wiltshire, but normal service was resumed in the 1960s and 70s as Swindon won six games in a row between the teams in SN1, scoring 19 goals in the process.
There has not been a goalless draw involving these two sides at the County Ground since May 1981, while Swindon have not failed to score at home to Brentford since a 2-0 reverse in November 1992 - a run of 12 matches.
The last two clashes in Wiltshire have ended in 1-1 draws but Swindon are unbeaten in four against the Bees at home and have lost just one of the last 10.
