Swindon Town boss Paolo Di Canio
PAOLO Di Canio has said he is willing to help finance the loan extensions of Chris Martin, Danny Hollands and John Bostock personally.
The trio have all played their last games for Swindon Town under the terms of their original short-term deals at the County Ground, but Di Canio rates their continued stays as crucial for the Robins’ chances of success this season.
With money tight at the club after most of the funds originally earmarked for January by majority shareholder Andrew Black were used in November to propel Town out of the transfer embargo, it is possible that the Italian will not have the budget available to him to keep all three.
Therefore, Di Canio made the remarkable statement after his side’s 4-0 win over Carlisle on Saturday that he would be happy to contribute his own money to the cause.
“I will do everything. I won’t talk about the board anymore because I have to be clear. I will do everything to keep them, even put my money in. I’m not joking,” he said.
“I will sacrifice something, which is mad to sacrifice something and remain short in one area, to keep those two players, because we have to do something.
“I will do everything because I am not a passive manager, I will do everything in my power because it’s a shame to lose some players in this moment. It’s not an attack on anyone, it’s a shame.
“To stay fifth in this moment, with one game in hand, with this atmosphere it would be a shame to lose something. I will do everything. If the money is acceptable money to spend, I will spend.
“I don’t know - £20,000 or £30,000 – I will put my money in to keep them as long as we can because I care, because I want to win. I have ambition and even if I put in my own money I will try because I want to win.
“I’m sure with them we have more of a chance to win. Anyway, if the situation remains like this I have to sacrifice something. I have to try to do something; I can’t keep everything in this moment.
“I have three plans. (The first is) if there is some change and someone goes mad in a positive way. If it’s not possible there are two plans. One – I put in myself and see what I can do and then sacrifice a player in a place to keep a player that in this moment is crucial for me and for this team.
“It’s clear that Danny Hollands wants to stay desperately, Chris Martin wants to stay desperately. Also Bostock, even if he isn’t involved, is a quality player.”
Over the weekend, Town fans on Twitter and online forums reacted to Di Canio’s statement by proposing a supporters’ fund to aid their manager in the transfer market.
Those wishing to donate to the Red Army Fund, which was set up several years ago with the expressed aim of helping the club with transfer fees and player wages, should visit the Trust STFC website for details of how to get involved.

I was chatting to a Forest fan yesterday who had been reading about PDC offer he had a different take on, which I though worth sharing although I must stress I dont agree.
He reckons its an investment by PDC as should this £30,000 help Swindon achieve back to back promotions then it will help raise PDC's stature within the footballing world.
Therefore when he moves on he will be able to command a greater package from his next employer.
Just to point out again I dont agree with this but found an outsiders take on it interesting.

At the end of the day, enjoy the ride whilst it lasts because we will never forget Paolo's time at the club for decades just like those fans who speak of Lou Macari and Glenn Hoddle.

This sounds like it's time for the red army fund to be called into action, which has been available to contribute to on the Trust website for some years. I've copied and pasted the following info from the RAF (Red Army Fund) latest info link:
The future of the Red Army Fund was discussed at the last Trust AGM on 8th May 2012 – some members pointed out that given the current Club ownership there may be no need for a fund to help with loan/permanent player funding however the overall view was the that the Club still needs to be run to existing budgets and as such the Red Army Fund would still be a great benefit , a perfect example being the loan signing of Gordon Greer which was funded by the Red Army Fund .
Support of the Red Army Fund is still solid with regular Standing Order donations still at similar levels to previous years .
The TrustSTFC Board encourage Trust members to support this initiative and welcome any comments on how we can develop this fund to support the club.
The current sum of money in the Red Army Fund Account as of 31st December 2012 is :
£ 9137.53

Regarding your Forest mate Chalk. Paolo will manage at the top level one day, be that with us or another team. With that will come a multi million £ salary. The financial side of things will take care of themselves. This is purely a show of commitment from Paolo.

I know that spending has to be controlled,but A Black must see how far we have come since PDC appointment,and our position in the table now is excellent following 3 straight hefty wins! There has never been a better time to go the extra mile Mr Black...help push STFC over the finishing line to the Championship please. Why spoil all the excellent support Mr Black has given so far by reigning in now?
Silence from Sir William Patey after these 3 great wins. This "chairman" needs to be at the forefront,not hiding behind the scenes and showing very little inthusiasm when he does speak.
No wonder we all miss Jeremy Wray!

I hope he has done something behind the scenes but I doubt it he is just a doom and gloom merchant who knows little about Football in general oh he did go to a Hibs game.
If fans are going to donate to the stfc trust I for one would put in 10 pounds a month until the end of the season,I know it aint much but I guess it might help.
well done Pdc good shout,God know's what Mr Black will do now,at least he could fund what is needed for Matin and Hollands?????? as I get the feeling if Pdc can keep this lot we scare a few teams in this division

Have spoken to the club this morning about donations for players wages. It seems the best way for the money to get into the correct kitty is to send it to the accounts dept at STFC where it will be paid into the wages account. I am not trying to undermine any other means or body, I just want the dosh in the right place at the right time, not my intention to offend anybody.

Just the truth will do at the end of the day,...that is the trouble with SWP being an ex "diplomat"..its like listening to a politician..you never get a straight answer!

I'm going to try and take a car load to the next game, I took two on Saturday and the were impressed, hopefully I can lure another. Trying to do my bit. that will be one S/T plus three.

I have friends and colleagues who all claim to be supporters, but only attend when the likes of Villa are in town. I've also decided I'm gonna upgrade to a season ticket next season (if a half season ticket were available I'd take one for this season!)

Interesting when you think about it isn't it? Instead of using fundraising as a "firefighting tool", what if it were used to regularly "top up" that Supporters Trust fund?
I'd be interested to know how many big local employers in Swindon have been approached by the Trust for possible donations/help with fundraising.

I would be particularly interested in contributing to a fund for the Trust to buy shares in the club. However, the key thing will this be for the trust to have very broad, simple and flexible aims. Something that finds the common denominator we all share in supporting the Town. It will be important to make that clear statement and vision up front.
I would also like to offer support in kind but living at distance, job, family etc would make that tricky. However, if there are simple tasks to be shared out...

You are right, trusts do well within the "siege mentality" as soon as we rid the Club of the disease many, including myself went back to doing what we love watching football.
Now could be that chance again.
Once again I respect what you are doing.....last time I over-did it in more ways than one....nudge nudge.
