SWINDON TOWN: Martin: We're the best in Europe but Town can still improve

Chris Martin Chris Martin

SWINDON Town may be sitting top of the European form league, but Chris Martin still thinks the best is yet to come from the Robins.

According to research conducted by Sky Sports News, Town’s record over their last four matches in better than the equivalent of any side in any major league across the continent.

Having won each of those matches by a combined score of 16-0, Swindon claimed pride of place above Queen of the South in second, PSG in third, Anderlecht in fourth and Barcelona in fifth.

It’s an impressive achievement but one Martin feels he and his teammates can still better.

He said: “It’s no surprise when you see our last few results. We’ve scored 16 goals and not conceded any. It’s a fantastic run of form and sometimes that doesn’t happen and we might have nicked a couple of the games 1-0 or 2-0.

“It’s great to have scored a few goals. I would have liked to have chipped in but it’s not the case. There’s still more potential I think as well. It’s not just that we’ve hit our peak and that’s it. I think we’ve still got potential to improve.

“You’ve seen for 60 minutes against Portsmouth we didn’t play our best football and we still won the game 5-0. If we’d played 10 or 20 per cent better who knows what the result would have been. I don’t think we’ve hit top form just yet.

“I know we’ve had fantastic results but there’s still room for improvement. We’ll keep striving for that, obviously the manager demands we keep getting better and showing the concentration levels that he wants.

“Hopefully we keep getting the results.”

Well said that man, we cannot sit back and ease up on any of our forthcoming games, with no cup commitments we have to be totally focused for the next 21 games regardless if the opposition is near the top or bottom. Consistency is the name of the game, I fully expect there will be one or two more thrashings, but those 1-0 results are just as important, Give nothing away and strike with venom and make it hurt.

Yes, fair comment from Martin. Message to Adver headline writers: Don't make yourselves and the player look silly with such a daft headline. Nowhere in this interview does Martin say we are the best team in Europe. Sam Morshead's articles are almost always well written and worth reading. Why not do him the dignity of a headline that reflects his work?

Alas daft headlines are usually the norm. They are devised to catch the eye and stimulate the reader towards reading the following article. They`re here to stay !

Point taken umpcah. And I really don't want to seem like a miserable b*stard, honest guv! Humour in headlines can be great fun. It's just that recently the Adver has had a habit of giving us headlines (usually scaremongering) that don't reflect the articles below them. And this one was just putting daft words into the player's mouth.

The PDC Express is only just changing into 4th gear....what odds Swindon to score 10 in a game before the end of the season....I'd probably have a dibs at it....you just never know given the way they're playing!
...
I watched us thrash Bury 8-0 a little while back....can we go two better!?

"....good memory Sapfan, I had to look it up as I remembered it too but not sure how long ago, it was 1979! that makes me feel old! As for our highest score goes it was .... 9 - 1 v Luton way back in 1920.., I don't remember that one

I remember that one and me and a few mates noticed we scored every time we lit up a fag. Ended up with a sore throat that day.

How about:
"Chris Martin on song for Eurovision"

Nothing misleading about that.

On Saturday we need to be 100% up for the task. I understand Bournemouth are really up for it and are seeking revenge!

Please feel free to enter the Oxford Mail site and give our little sad yellow warriors some support over their exit from two cups. They need picking up after losing their Wembley dream tonight.

A super strike from Ray McHale in the Stratton Bank end I recall.

Remember standing in the TE that day and then the following week that memorable Arsenal game.

Happy Days.
