- REPORTING BY SAM MORSHEAD & ANDY WARREN
- FULL-TIME: Bournemouth 1 (Arter 26) Swindon 1 (Williams 85)
- Andy Williams grabs a leveller for Town
- Harry Arter gives the Cherries the lead from outside the box
- Pitch deemed fit for play in second half despite heavy rain
5:35pm
That's that for us now folks, we're off to brave part the Dorset seas on the drive back to Swindon.
Andy Williams' late goal rescued a point for Town after Harry Arter had given Bournemouth a first-half lead at a sodden Dean Court, and a draw was a fair reflection of the game as a whole.
We'll see you in a week's time for the visit of Shrewsbury. Until then...stay warm and stay dry!
5:34pm
Town boss Paolo Di Canio has once again insisted he will do everything he can to keep his squad together.
KEEPING IT TOGETHER
“It is a shame if we lose some players, and we will work 60 hours a day because it would be a shame.
“I am really positive in the fact something can heppan in the next few days, we have to do everything to go up and stay in the top six for play-off.
“You can see how Chris and Danny play, and we have to keep going.
“In 20 days time we have to make sure those two players extend their contract until the end of the season, for the fans.
“We have to make sure to keep them, I can’t say today, but I hope so.
“I don’t expect help from the board, and at the moment we are working to extend.
“I can help and support this because I want to do this, we are talking about something we can get out for this kind of situation.”
5:32pm
Keeper Wes Foderingham made some great saves to help earn Town a point, and was pleased to be involved after being a spectator in a number of games this season.
WES FODERINGHAM
“If we were offered a point before the game we would have taken it, but in the first half they didn’t create much.
“Their goal was a bit of mayhem because Wardy went to clear, and Joe would put his hand up to say he should have cleared it.
“I have not had much to do in a few games, so it was good to make a save or two or today.
“I could hardly see because I had water in my eyes when I saved from Harry Arter.
“A few months ago we would have lost that game, and it was a great point.”
5:31pm
Town goalscorer Andy Williams was pleased to breath a sigh of relief when his second half shot hit the net.
ANDY WILLIAMS
“In the big scheme of things it was a great goal, but it was a poor game because of the conditions.
“Chris went through and the keeper came out, and my thought is always to shoot.
“I didn’t see the player on the line at first, but thankfully it went infor me.
“We didn’t talk about the conditions even though we knew they were horrendous, and we treated it as a normal half-time break.
“We were the only side who looked like winning it, and maybe we had time to snatch it at the end.”
5:28pm
The game was in doubt at half-time, but Di Canio admitted he had played in worse conditions in the Premier League.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“He told Fabrizio we would take five more minutes to decide to stop the game, but then he said it was okay.
“I was thinking it was raining even more heavy, and although I believe in my team it become hard to make chances on a pitch like that.
“It wasn’t a pitch which put the players in danger, and I have played in the Premier League on worse pitches.
“The fans were superb, and there was a lot of enthusiasm because it was the first game after Christmas.
“I hope they can keep following us because together we can light on the fire which is already on and go to the next game and stay close.”
5:21pm
Di Canio was also impressed with the way Andy Williams took his goal.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“Sometimes he goes blurry, and maybe this chance he is better from distance.
“To deliver the ball, especially straightaway to reach the goal, and deliver the ball in the net is not easy so credit goes to him.
“There was an action that caused this goal, and credit goes to Chris Martin who challenged James.”
5:20pm
The Town boss also wants his side to be more clinical.
PDC
“In the first half we had an incredible chance with James Collins.
“In the first half they had two chances, and Arter scored a great goal. We have to be more clinical and nasty.
“The fact we created four or five clear chances is something amazing, and if we can do this away from home it is a fantastic signal because it gives me confirmation.
“We reacted with style, quality and determination."
5:19pm
Manager Paolo Di Canio has spoken to the media, and was proud of his players who came from behind to get a point.
“Once again I have to mark my attention to the performance, because it is a great point against one of the best sides in this league.
“I am more than proud because my lads were amazing, and today is an important signal because two months ago we would lose this game.
“We showed good football for the conditions, and on the occasion we dominated and had some good chances.
“The point is important and we have to keep going.”

90+2 minutes: Hollands is brought down and wins a free-kick, bringing a dust up involving most of the players.
When the free-kick finally comes, Ritchie’s effort is deflected wide. There is no time for the corner as the referee blows for full-time.

Man of the match award goes to David James.......think that vote might have been done before the Town goal.

IN THE HOME DUGOUT – Eddie Howe

Since the young manager returned to Dean Court in October, he has masterminded a upturn in fortunes which sees the Cherries become arguably the form team in League One.
When the south coast club visited Swindon under Paul Groves in September they came away with a 4-0 defeat, but since Howe’s return they have not tasted defeat and now sit on the brink of the play-off places.
The 35-year-olds association with the Cherries began in 1994 as a youth player, and he went on to play more than 200 games for the club before becoming Harry Redknapp’s first signing at Portsmouth in 2002 for £400,000.
Howe began well at Portsmouth, but shortly after signing a knee injury on his debut against Preston North End ended his season, and when he returned nearly two years later he suffered a similar injury nine minutes into a game with Nottingham Forest.
His recovery involved a loan with Swindon in which he didn’t make any appearances, and he eventually returned to Dean Court on a temporary basis before making the move permanent in 2004.
In November 2006 he was made player-coach by manager Kevin Bond and was responsible for the reserve team, but he lost his job when Bond was sacked in 2008.
He returned to the club as youth boss under Jimmy Quinn, and when the boss was fired he eventually took the reigns at only 29 years of age.
Despite suffering from crippling financial problems and a transfer embargo Howe won promotion from League Two in 2010.
His success brought admirers from across British football, and after turning down a number of jobs he eventually made the move to Burnley in January 2011.
Howe impressed in Lancashire but when home came calling in October he found it hard to resist, and he is back where he belongs.

DANGER MEN
Brett Pitman

The striker is back at Bournemouth after a spell with Bristol City, and is looking to pick up where he left off having scored more than 50 goals during his previous spell on the south coast. The striker can be deadly when presented with a chance in the box, and will need to be watched.
Eunan O’Kane

The Irish midfielder is a familiar face to Town fans, having played against him while with Torquay last season. O’Kane was linked with a move to Town during the summer, and although it never materialised he is still a quality player. He can pass the ball superbly, and his strike at Wigan in the FA Cup proves he needs to be watched outside the box.
Marc Pugh

The winger can both cut inside and bomb down the flank to get balls into the box for the Cherries strikers. He has made more than 100 appearances in red, and is getting better by the season. He will face a right footed left back in Alan McCormack this afternoon, so expect to see him hug the line.
Lewis Grabban

Town boss Paolo Di Canio knows all about striker Grabban, having been linked with him during his spell with Rotherham. Grabban has pace to burn, and will be looking to get in behind the Swindon defence.

LAST TIME OUT - Bournemouth 3 Swindon 2, February 2011
DANNY HOLLANDS
A familiar face scored the winner the last time the two sides met at Dean Court, as current loanee Danny Hollands proved the difference in a five goal thriller in February 2011.
Liam Feeney gave the Cherries the lead before Paul Caddis equalised, but Danny Ings gave the home side the lead going into the break. Matt Ritchie levelled things up after the break, but Hollands struck with 15 minutes to go to earn three points.
2:11pm
Swindon Town's under 18s drew 1-1 with Yeovil this morning, with Connor Waldon getting the Robins' goal after 26 minutes.
Manager Paul Bodin said: "It was a scrappy game in muddy and windy conditions and we took the lead with a superb back-post header.
"Both teams could have scored more but didn't take their opportunities and Yeovil equalised in the 88th minute to earn a battling draw."

TEAM NEWS - BOURNEMOUTH
Again, nothing official just yet but here's a rundown of the hosts' runners and riders this afternoon.
Eddie Howe could go back to a 4-4-2 this weekend, after using 4-1-4-1 in the FA Cup tie with Wigan last time out.
Richard Hughes could drop to the bench, with Brett Pitman returning up front. Shaun McDonald is out with a long-term injury and Lewis Grabban is a doubt with a virus.
RECALL?: BRETT PITMAN
Matt Tubbs could come back in if Grabban is not fit enbough to feature, while David James is expected to replace Shwan Jalal in goal.
1:41pm
Hearing there are only a couple of hundred tickets remaining for this afternoon's game, which will go ahead despite some very wet weather on the south coast which has already claimed Portsmouth's game.
Town have already sold out their allocation of course, so it is certain to be a great atmosphere.

TEAM NEWS
Nothing official until around 2pm, but here's a look at how Town could line up today.
Manager Paolo Di Canio is expected to name an unchanged side for the trip to Dean Court.
Jay McEveley had a minor scare in his recovery from a knee operation in the past week and isn't quite ready for a return, while Miles Storey is close to a comeback.
OUT BUT ON THE MEND: JAY MCEVELEY
Troy Archibald-Henville has been sidelined for two months following knee surgery.
Chris Martin will be hoping for a recall, while Danny Hollands comes up against the club for whom he made close to 200 appearances.

It promises to be an exciting afternoon in Dorset, and you can keep up to date with all the goings-on right here throughout the afternoon.

Totally agree with you Stigger. Ferry has been awesome for us recently and I simply don't buy into the argument that he cannot start away from home. We all saw the impact he had when he replaced Miller in the game against Portsmouth a couple of weeks ago. We are a smoother, slicker side when Ferry plays. Miller is slow and predictable. His lack of pace means he always wants to stay goal side of the ball and most of his passes go back or sideways. He offers very little going forward - you'll never see him run forawrd with or without the ball. Ferry is a different player to that of a couple of seasons ago. He does more running than any other player and tracks back/tackles as much as anyone. Can anyone else explain why he has to settle for a place on the bench ??

Dare I say it, but with Miller in the middle I can see this as containment, a cautious start not giving away any midfield ground. The wingers will have to work harder to get the ball forward as less will come from Miller than it would from Ferry.

Navarro and Miller are past their sell-by dates, and Hollands/Ferry is the combo that should be out there as much as possible. It sounds as though Roberts maintained his recent improvement in form, but Raffa is still the better option: he tracks back, tackles and scores (where Roberts does none of the above). Too bad Collins missed an absolute sitter, but a credit to the lads to battle back in dreadful conditions. Doncaster scoring the winner in added time was a great pity, but we are still in touch, and this was a valuable away point.

All hilarity to one side, yes I agree Ferry is the best we have by a country mile and then some, and for me now Bostock has gone he must be played with Hollands. The two work together very well.
I also agree that RDV, who has always been played as a forward before he came here has a natural killer instinct in front of goal and is more creative on the wing, BUT, and its a big but, I firmly believe Roberts will come good. He has shown in the last few games his confidence is returning. I think he and RDV are horses for courses, they both have good elements of play and TBH I still think its a matter of tinkerman between the two. Shame Collins missed the sitter, but I've just seen plenty of others missed on MoTD, so he is not alone. Sometimes its impossible to see how the ball doesn't go in, but it happens to other teams besides ours. I agree its frustrating but its part of the game.
With that I'll bid you a pleasant good night, and its only football, we'll get there I'm sure.

There is no way you can simply name the same XI for 50 odd games
.
As it has been clearly noted and stated by Howe himself that the weather almost made it impossible to play football
.
Ferry is a playmaker and with the conditions as they were had he started he may have been ineffective due to the conditions dictating play
.
PdC might have thought this and thought why risk Ferry getting injured (more likely in poor conditions) in a game where he may not be effective
.
I would rather Ferry on the bench in that case rather tha him miss 3, 4 or 5 matches coming up where he could really make a difference
.
Also the other thing is we are starting to enter a period of Tues-Sat-Tues-Sat games again and we know that is draining
.
So it's great that we have options to keep us fresh
.
I have no issue with us rotating between RDV and Roberts, Williams Collins and Martin and Ferry Hollands and Miller
.
We have had this complaint about PdC over rotating since he arrived but one person has been proven to be right - PdC!
.
We have been the most sucessful team in the entire Football League and believe 3rd if the Premiership is added!
.
You would have thought after nearly 100 games which have seen us win over 60 of them people would start to trust PdC that he knows his players and what will work in each game
.
Yes he gets it wrong sometimes - luckily for us thought that is very rare

No player can start every fixture in the modern game. The pace of play is just to physically demanding.
We all agree Si Ferry is our best midfielder and personally I'd always pick Raffa over Roberts. (Just my preference). The pitch is a quagmire and the manager decides to save there legs. Seems eminently sensible to me.
We are 7 points off top with a game in hand and 20 left. Many games at home against teams in the bottom half.
Well done Paolo on your selection, well done the players for their performance, a good point on a water polo pitch and especially top draw the red army on a cold and miserable day.

MR SF DH GR

Then we have the bench as Flint McEveley Miller Navarro RDV and Martin
.
That is an amazing bench and really swapping any in would not really weaken us as discussed above - RDV for GR for example

It's taken a while but we are at the point PdC and Wray wanted at the start where we have the right number of first teamers competing to play week in week out
.
We then have Troy, Storey and Louis Thompson should any become injured or suspended and adding them to the bench doesn't make it look suddenly weak either (Yes I know Troy is out but principle is the same)
.
We could even add in our "unwanteds" in the mix as Benson and Rooney are certainly an alright option for the bench

The silence may be saying more than all his/her previous postings.
Swindon were by far the best team to have visited DC so far this season. There had been a lot of talk from both sets of supporters about how 1 team or other was gonna get tonked etc etc.
What we saw yesterday was 2 very evenly matched & equally committed teams who produced some great football in pretty poor conditions and both teams should be applauded for that.
I believe that both teams will be right up there at the end of the season and would both grace the c/ship if promoted which i would like to see.
Well done to Swindon for showing determination right to the end when they got a deserved draw. The game itself was quite comical really with so many errors from both teams due to the poor playing conditions but very enjoyable nevertheless. I thought PDC was gonna end up on his arse on the touchline the way he was jumping up & down, but hey i guess he adds to the entertainment.
Dont be offended by any of my previous posts it was meant as light hearted banter. All the best for the remainder of the season.

'99% of fans do not think Ferry should start every game'. Says who? Perhaps 99% of forum posters (on here and the polytechnic forum) do but that does say rather more about them and their general levels of footballing knowledge.... it's also worth remembering that (the same?) 99% of fans could see that Connell was a championship striker not being given enough chances or that Phil Smith was a more than adequate lower league keeper....
Thankfully all you wise old owls are too busy driving vans and turning computers on and off again - meaning that clueless top grade footballing professionals are left to pick the side most suitable for each individual set of circumstances...
Ferry does not start the tougher games because he is physically weak, positionally unaware and frustratingly unable to follow simple team roles... this is a ninety minute game and a man whose (considerable) strength is unpicking tired and lower grade defences is being used to maximise just that impact...
PDC (and his team) is so much better technically than he gets credit for.... I hope it continues but we do have a disproportionate number of fans who frankly deserve their Bodin / Ling / McLaughlin managerial dream teams...

Our manager as yet has not added any money in as I think he suspects Benson will sign for a team this week and there fore we we get a fee. I can also see him perhaps looking for a mutual parting of the ways and looking for his contract to be paid up and then get a signing on fee where he goes, in which case we may dip out. I have seen no moans so I guess they played well !
Seen the Collins chance a few times now. Superb skill to set the chance up but on his wrong foot and slightly off balance. Ironically he probably would have scored if he had not made a decent contact !
Good result and a real chance to push on now. As mentioned above, win our home games (which we should) and 5-6 away and we will be very close.

S.m said its a drop in the ocean what's been give so far.
So in other words its not worth doing.
After all we signed both players without the fund, so I'm sure once our players leave
Benson
Rooneys
Cox
That will free up the funds to get them in for longer.
Also people forget we have a mega rich board who I'm sure will back him.
Then we do have paolos 30k even before we dig into funds.
After all I'm sure when he leaves for a bigger club he won't worry about yours/ everyone who has donated.

We have a squad and a Manager who knows and understands the players better than anyone.
PDC knows what he is doing, or appears to in my eyes anyway.

You have actually made a good case on here today. Alas, you have undone that good work by showing your true colours. As Steve points out, the main purpose of your posts seems to be to belittle your fellow supporters. Most people might wonder what driving vans has got to do with being a football fan. Anyone who drives a van for a living would have every right to feel affronted by your arrogant snobbery.

Good points about rotation, RDV's stinker, horses for courses etc. I won't continue the argument. However, I think the case for rotation is weakened a little by the fact that several players get picked for every game and there is not much debate about it. Ritchie, for instance, runs his arse off in every game and always seems to recover in time for the next one. While we have 7 days between games I don't think that should be too much to ask of a professional athlete.

The RAF is not actually the clubs money!

It had a purpose once (thus he £10k I there - but don't forget that has been collected over the past decade!) and it may have purpose again (I really hope not) but while our current owners are worth 100s of millions it is not needed and all money should be pumped straight into the club

If spending £x on a programme or £x on food will only raise so much profit because of raw material and seller costs, for the odd game the gross amount going into a bucket will realise more profit (100%) and go straight into the wages fund, and if that keeps Martin and Hollands here then that is where my money will go. BTW, I spoke directly with the Accounts Dept and my £25 went straight to them, and straight into the wages pot, direct, so our manager already has my £25 at his disposal, job done. Others make up there own minds and do their thing, as long as the club as a whole benefits then great. If others choose not to contribute then that is up to them, it is their choice and their prerogative, its a free country.
As goes our owners, they are not as wealthy as they once were due to the slump in prices on the Stock Exchange, that is basically what Black has said, his net worth is less and he has taken several hits to his portfolio, that is why he wants to sell the club and there is no further money for player purchases this season.

The RAF which is being promoted is run by TrustSTFC not Swindon Town FC
.
However I can't see how people can donate straight to the wage pot - as there is a 65% wage cap in place
.
Otherwise why can't Andrew Black make an anonymous donation and see us go over the limit?
.
Surely a donation simply become other income and if acceptable by the FL 65% can be "released" to the budget
.
I agree with Den though not just via becoming a new ST holder but increase support in any form you can
.
For example if you are a concession and can afford a full adult price - buy it at full adult price to give more income
.
Surely that is better than throwing money in a bucket which may never be used?
.
Ie 2 concession tickets are £38 and a £10 donation is pretty much on par with 2 adult tickets - but the cash is with STFC
.
Please note the IF YOU CAN part before anyone jumps down my throat about being a student or OAP and unable to afford the full £25 etc

It was a great day out as we went up town, had a wander around, bought a few bits and pieces and then a meal. Its the way to go, two are at the Shrews game already, so a £50 knock on there and so it continues hopefully. The day was better because we won, but it was already a success, blokes out enjoying the day. It took a bit of persuasion but it was worth it. Once you get people into the habit hopefully it stays that way. Three on the day, another two coming and may bring mates plus my donation, its heading the right way.
Yes LR. I think we are both talking about people who already intend to make a donation. Wiz said he bought tickets for mates. Great stuff - possible domino effect there. More money in the coffers now and more in future too if his mates get hooked. It's up to everyone to choose how they do it. But, as you say, boosting gate money helps the cause re the 65% limit.
