- REPORTING BY SAM MORSHEAD & ANDY WARREN
- FULL-TIME: Swindon Town 2 (Martin 50, Williams 53) Shrewsbury 0
- Martin and Williams win it for Town
- Foderingham saves a late penalty
- Game only on thanks to work of 200 volunteers, who cleared 30 tonnes of snow from County Ground pitch overnight
5:53pm
That's that from us at theCoutny Ground. Another good day then for Swindon, who move to third place in the League One table with the most comfortable of 2-0 victories over Shrewsbury.
Chris Martin netted from the penalty spot and Andy Williams struck the second, before Wes Foderingham saved Matt Richards' spot-kick to ensure he kept his 14th clean sheet of the campaign.
Swindon have now won four in a row at home, but it's a run of four games in a row away from home in the coming weeks which could define their season.
For now, the shoveling efforts of all those volunteers last night paid dividends and any prospective new owner should be looking at this business venture a little more confidently.
Until next time, goodbye.
5:53pm
Di Canio also revealed a half-time threat saw his players vastly improve after the break.
CALLING FOR MORE: PDC
“I told them that if we lost this game that the appointment is tomorrow morning is 5am at Liddington and that was enough," he said.
“We would start to run, and they had to win as they had in the past and go out and give their best.
“We were on top and we should stay 2-0 up, but we missed nasty behaviour in front of goal and we stayed 0-0.
“We saw straight away after two minutes we had a different team.
“We were given the chance to play on a beautiful surface, and we have to thank Marcus the groundsman because before it was covered it was rolled flat."
5:52pm
The Italian was also pleased to be able to reward the loyal fans who helped clear the pitch last night.
THE TOWN FANS AND PDC (circled) HELP CLEAR THE PITCH
“When we decided to order pizza we had 60 people and then over two hundred, and it was gone in a minute," he said.
“It was emotional to see kids with their dads around to help, and what they have done I am thankful.
“It was incredible because the common feeling was because they wanted to come and watch the game, and the best they can have is see their team win and wanted to send back a message to them to say thanks.
“The fact we won is a present to them.”
5:47pm
Manager Paolo Di Canio has reflected on a strange week in his post match press conference, in which they struggled to train outside due to the weather.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“It was a strange week and I am very pleased the player gave their best because it wasn’t easy.
“We trained indoor all week and on Friday morning we had a stretch session and some quick feet because we couldn’t get to Cirencester.
“It was crucial to focus the attentions, and maybe it is normal for other teams not to train on Friday in bad weather.
“The first half was very bad, but we have better players, shape and system.
“I told them the game would go on, and we won and I want to thank my players and all the volunteers last night who made an amazing job and the staff here.
“What they did last night is the most important thing.”

We are underway

2:56pm
I have to say I am a little upset about the probable absence of the orange ball, which is always such a treat to see.
2:55pm
Not looking like the biggest crowd the County Ground has ever seen, which is understandable, but the club deserves every bit of praise it is getting for the job they have done to get this game on.

IN THE AWAY DUGOUT – Graham Turner

There aren’t many more experienced managers in the Football League than Graham Turner.
The man from the Wirral enjoyed a notable if not spectacular playing career, making more than 200 appearances for Chester before finishing his career with more than 300 games for the Shrews.
In 1978 he became player-manager, and that year they secured the Third Division Championship. The next decade saw the Shropshire side solely in the Second Division, but Turner left after ending his playing career in 1984 to take charge of Aston Villa.
His time at Villa Park was not successful, and he left after only two years with the club heading for relegation from the First Division.
Turner then dropped into the Fourth Division with Wolves, and after missing out in the play-offs in his first season he led the West Midlanders to two successive promotions before leaving in 1994.
The next year he moved to Hereford, but suffered relegation to the Conference in 1997. The Bulls suffered major financial problems during his spell as boss, but they managed to return to the league in 2006 after beating Halifax in the Conference Play-off Final.
In 2007/08 Hereford earned promotion to the third tier for the first time in 30 years, but they were relegated in their first season.
Turner resigned as manager but stayed on at the club as chairman, but after selling his shares he returned to Shrewsbury in 2010.
After a losing in the League Two play-offs in his first season, Turner led the club to second in the league last season as they went up.....behind some team who play in red.
2:43pm
DANGERMEN - A look at the men Town will have to stop this afternoon
Marvin Morgan

The Shrewsbury striker has scored goals wherever he has been, be it in non-league football or in the professional game. Morgan is capable of popping up on either flank or through the middle, and offers a physical threat as well as being good on the ball.
Paul Parry

The winger is capable of popping up on either flank, and has impressed all the way up to Championship level. Parry can hug the touchline or come inside to attack the penalty area, and both full-backs will need to be on their toes. He may be on the bench today, but if the visitors are still in the game late on he could prove vital.
Matt Richards

The Shrewsbury captain can literally play anywhere on the field, having started his career as a left-back at Ipswich. He operated in the centre of midfield for Shrews last season, but now finds himself on the wing. Richards is good on the ball and moves from box to box, and is also good from set pieces.

LAST TIME OUT
AT THE DOUBLE: Alan Connell
In the corresponding fixture last season Town went top of League Two for the first time since the opening day as two goals from striker Alan Connell saw them come back from a goal down to win 2-1.
The rest was history for Town as they went on to secure the League Two title, but the scrappy win over the Shrews proved the platform for a magnificent end to the season.

With all the doom and gloom hanging over the club on Thursday, both chief executive Nick Watkins and manager Paolo Di Canio spoke eloquently about the positive aspects of Swindon Town.
IT'S GOOD TO TALK: NICK WATKINS
Between them they gave the message that this was a product which can be taken on and enjoyed by an investor willing to commit.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
I spoke to owner Andrew Black on Thursday about the situation he finds himself in at Swindon Town.
ANDREW BLACK
He was honest and open in his appraisal of the situation. Having never had a keen interest in football, and having joined the original consortium which took over the club in 2008 as a favour, Mr Black has gone on to become something of a reluctant owner.
He admits that the business of running the club is tiring him mentally, and that he has come to the conclusion in his mind that now is the right time to leave. Having failed in an effort to secure a co-investor in the summer, he does not want to leave behind a "car crash".
To that extent, administration would be the last thing he wants for the club. Indeed the word itself has so many negative inferences, especially around Swindon, that Black wants to avoid it as much as possible.

After the furore over a piece of plastic, harder news came later in the week when it was formally recognised by the board that owner Andrew Black is looking to sell a large chunk of his 98 per cent shareholding in the board.

SWINDON TOWN v Shrewsbury Town: Foderingham; Thompson N, Flint, Ward, McCormack; Ritchie, Ferry, Hollands, Roberts; Martin, Williams
Substitutes: Bedwell, McEveley, Navarro, Collins, Miller, De Vita, Rooney A
That's three changes for Town, with James Collins, Tommy Miller and Aden Flint making way for Chris Martin, Simon Ferry and Aden Flint.
A nice surprise to see Jay McEveley amongst the subs. We were told by Di Canio on Thursday that this weekend would be too soon for his return from a knee operation.

THE WEEK THAT WAS
It all started with a monsoon and a sheet of Perspex.
Town managed to sneak a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth last week in horrendous conditions - the match really should not have been allowed to finish - but attention on Twitter soon shifted to a smashed pane in the visitors' dugout.
Cherries fans were quick to blame Paolo Di Canio, with one even suggesting the police should be called, however te Adver extablished that it was Domenico Doardo who accidentally broke the plastic. The clubs have sorted it out since.
Our picture even made it onto Sky Sports this morning, with Soccer AM taking an interest. Relive it all here.

THE COUNTY GROUND TRANSFORMED
The game today is only going ahead thanks to a Herculean effort from close to 200 Town fans and staff, including manager Paolo Di Canio, who worked through the night to make sure the pitch is playable.
Groundsman Marcus Cassidy headed up the effort, which saw close to 30 tonnes of snow removed from the pitch, with most of it in mounds around the advertising boards.
Di Canio bought pizza for all the volunteers, with work going on until close to midnight which has transformed the County Ground into an oasis.

SHREWSBURY TEAM NEWS
A small nugget of info from the opposition ahead of today’s clash now.
Luke Rodgers is expected to be fit after a rib injury.
LUKE RODGERS
The striker has recently agreed a permanent deal until the end of the season with the Shrews.
Jermaine Grandison will be the subject of a last-minute decision following a hip injury, otherwise the visitors have a clean bill of health.

TEAM NEWS
It’s a little early for anything official, with the line-ups expected to be announced at around 2pm, but here’s the rundown of Town’s injured and returning players.
Jay McEveley should be back for the trip to Tranmere next week as his recovery from knee surgery is almost complete, but today is too soon for the left-back and Alan McCormack will continue to fill in.
OUT: JAY MCEVELEY
Miles Storey is available, should manager Paolo Di Canio wish to call on him, but Troy Archibald-Henville remains sidelined.
There could be a recall for Chris Martin up front, while Simon Ferry is expected to partner Danny Hollands in midfield and Raffa De Vita is pushing Gary Roberts for a starting berth on the left wing.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Advertiser’s live coverage of Swindon Town’s clash with Shrewsbury.
To be honest, we weren’t expecting to be at the County Ground this afternoon, given the heavy snowfall and treacherous conditions of the past 36 hours.
However, thanks to an intrepid bunch of volunteers, groundstaff, Robins office staff, coaches and even manager Paolo Di Canio, we have a game.
Around 200 community-spirited individuals worked until almost midnight last night to clear snow off the covers at the County Ground, led by head groundsman Marcus Cassidy, and their incredible efforts have ensured we have a match to watch this afternoon.
We’ll be recounting the events of yesterday during the next 90 minutes ahead of kick-off, before the Robins look to make it four consecutive home wins against Shrewsbury.
Stick will us for all the best build-up, followed by match updates and reaction. If you’re at home in front of the fire, stick on the kettle and settle down for another exciting afternoon in Town’s season.
Enjoy!

Tranmere have done well but without Cassidy they could struggle to maintain the form they have shown so far, Brentford are involved in extra cup games and fixture congestion could be their downfall, Sheff Utd another poor team when we played them at the CG, with their history they should have been walking this league, but seem to be suffering from Danny Wilson second season syndromn
IMO, Two from present top 5 for the automatic places. If we are going to do it we need to get results when we travel to their places, a return of 12 points from 12 would go along way to ensure we are one of the two to go up automatically.

Wilson is just too reserved for the options he's got at Sheff Utd and as you say, it's second season syndrome!

Winning today and the next 4 would, IMHO, put us in at firm 2nd favourites for the title at least.

Same old cliche ., HUGE match next week against Tranmere, I expect it to rather more tricky match-up this time round, but 0-1 or 1-2 will do fine. Even a draw wont be disasterous.

It's absolutely vital now that everyone sticks together and stays positive until an investor(s) is secured. We need responsible reporting from the Adver because, Sam, phrases like 'bidding war' do not help. Clearly we cannot expect anything helpful or factual from the BBC and Sky (Jeff Stelling was talking about our '£13m debt' and making it sound as though we owed money to every Tom, Dick and Harry). As true fans, let's avoid reacting to what we read in the press until we have the real facts. I don't think Andrew Black will let us down and he certainly doesn't want to lose all his money. Just hope we are successful in securing new money and in keeping the squad together. Paulo is proving to be fantastically loyal and he's gone way up in my estimation during the last four weeks.

My five penneth on the game: - Ferry mom by a mile - some muppet tweeted to bbc wilts that Miller was orchestrating the midfield -I think he meant Max Miller! Taxi time for Martin everybody should score a pen -he never looked like scoring from open play- Willo henceforth to be called long John silver cos has only got a right peg otherwise he could have cut inside the keeper and hit it with his left - good job he can jump up on his good leg to head a ball. Great pen save from Fods and generally good all round defence and well deserved 3,points well done lads. Just about thawed out now!

And a great effort from the players fully deserved the win. Roberts and Williams my pick today both were fantastic. Flint had the champagne moment sticking his head in the snowdrift, hilarious suff.
Looking good on the investment front - Paolo saying he was more happy today than he was yesterday. Very encouraging.
And finally a MASSIVE MASSIVE thanks to the Junior Red ladies who sorted me out a pair of dry socks for my littl'un who had decided on the way to the ground to kick snow but got wet feet. Saved me an early exit and was a superb gesture. Thanks!

Fans, backroom staff, and the man himself out clearing the pitch till midnight, then they team turns in another polished performance. OK they never got into top gear, but still terrorised a stubborn Shrews side in the second half.
With slightly better finishing it could easily have been our favourite score again. Not forgetting a cracking penalty save from Fodders, which must have been doubly difficult since it was the only shot he had to save on a freezing afternoon.
Some of the teams around us are beginning to slip up a bit, so if we can keep grinding out results like last week at Bournmouth, then turning on the style at home we should have as good a chance of anyone of automatic promotion.

This sentence from your post could be telling:
"I'd have had Collins on for the second half and goodness knows I've been critical of him in the past."
This has been said about a number of Town players this season by many different posters.
Commitment to the team is what I like and I believe I am now seeing that in every Town player. Look at the player who forced James into the error last week and ultimately set up the equaliser.

thought we started slowly but finished well. Could have had 4 but I'm happy with 2-0. The old Macca red mist dropping again, why, it seemed he played himself into trouble. Top marks though to Sir Wes on a first class save.
Thought Motm was a close call between several players, and Thompson is now so combative he is magic.
Williams input in attack today was tremendous and Roberts is growing into his role now game by game a better player. A few one-two's didn't come off for a few today, but come on, it was cold. Up to third which is good, hopefully now we will go on a similar run now to last season.

Pitch was imaculate and I believe even Mr Turner sung the praises.
I think 7,741 was a good turn out given the conditions and congrats to the 251 that travelled down from Shropshire to support their team.
With regards to the game, good performances overall, although we did look off the pace in the first half at times. No complaints of the defence other than the endless back passes, but if they don't conceed goals what can I say, another clean sheet is fantastic and well done Wes for the penalty save.
Midfield I think Holland didn't look to me he was 100% fit, maybe a touch of flu or even the trots (he came on late for start of game), Miller coming on made the difference with support to Simon, probably the best I've seen him play for us, great to have such a choice for midfield when a good player goes off and another come on and tries so hard. Roberts and Ritchie both did well, thought De Vita might come on when Ritchie got another yellow, how many is that now?
Up front thought Chris Martin had some great touches, despite what others say I think he is a good target man and Williams continues to frustrate, with the chances he gets he should already be leading the golden boot for this league, he has pace, but with one foot and no brain, he is never ever going to become a legend here. He has a lot more to do to improve, hopefully Paolo will continue to try and make him a more clinical finisher than he is now, it's not rocket science is it to hit a ball between two post?
Very happy with the win, could/should have been five. Brentford dropped 3 points, the Blades two, Doncaster are the ones to catch, We will be up the Wirral next week with my son , meeting up with 3 locals who will be sitting in with us in the cow shed, a mate I spoke with today who was there for for the play-off game in '93 told me how their fan walked down the pitch and applauded our fans after the game. Top drawer in my opinion of fans that know their football.

Martin does not score too many goals, quite a serious problem for a striker!!
And Collins had his fantastic moment of glory with 4 second half goals, but cannot usually score to save his life. Bouremouth and today and numerous other times??
We do have a player on our books who CAN score goals and has done for us, his name is Paul Benson, but he seems to be making the tea at the moment!!

Joey and Jock, my impression of Martin is that he's still lacking a bit of match sharpness and confidence. I still think there's a lot more to come from him. As for Benson, I'm a fan of his too but our aggregate of 17-1 in the last five games suggests we're doing pretty well without him. With that sort of record and every player making a huge contribution, I'm not going to quibble about where the goals are coming from, whether they're from strikers, midfielders, defenders or the referee's arse.
“The only chance of them (Hollands and Martin) staying on is if we are bought in that period of time, not necessarily completed but we would have to be certain it was all going through.”
Given your earlier thoughts Den, If Martin is that good, I just wonder what the plan is when he is gone in less than 2 weeks?

For what it is worth:
Fodderingham: Not a lot to do today but what he does he does increasingly well. ...Roberts said Macka only gave away the penalty to wake him up and make him earn a wage! :-)
.
Thompson: Just looks better and better, so assured on a 1-on-1 situe but never looks like panicking...getting better going forwards in link play with Ritchie but still hesitating.
.
McCormack: Ignoring the silly penalty I thought it was one of his poorer performances for Town today...when he made the runs forward he struggled to find his man with a pass and always on the back foot when they broke.....still think he should be in midfield with Ferry when McEverley comes back - who looked pretty sharp when he came on.
.
Flint: Did the job well, nervous start but you do see the difference in assurity on the ball and going forwards with Devera - definitely my 2nd choice now.
.
Ward: Simply a rock!...I disagreed with someone about making him Captain at the moment but he should be next season.
.
Ferry: Simply brilliant stuff again. He harries he chases provides quick link up play and does so much off the ball - He is the engine room of the team and we look far poorer without him.
.
Hollands: Has been playing really well and is the one I would keep if we can only keep one of our two loans....hope his injury is not too bad but again if McEverley is back then put Macka back in his natural position alongside Ferry.
.
Roberts: Had a great game today but got a bit selfish at the end...so unlucky not to have scored a couple today - We need both him and de Vera at their best as it is a energy sapping position.
.
Ritchie: Good game but not at his best today...worryingly getting booked far more often for silly things and arguing too much when only a yellow. Amazing energy and got better as the match went on....possibly more space as they tired.
.
Williams: Brilliantly quick feet and some amazing turns at pace...just getting better and better....my e/w money at 70/1 for top scorer is looking better every game....far more to come in the way of goals I think.
.
Martin: Bit of an unsung hero at times. Works hard pulling the defence all over the place and links up well with midfield plus gives Williams that yard of space with some great runs...just needs a bit of confidence in front of goal to get going....as mentioned though I'd keep Hollands over Martin.
.
McEverley: Covered above. I'm a big fan of him but wish he'd nail his crosses a bit more...great left back.
.
Miller: Thought he had a solid game when forced on and just needs some game time...good combative midfielder and one who can hit a ball if needed.
.
Collins: He's getting better as time goes on and think he'll click very soon - if he only scores a hat-trick every 10 games but the team score 2 a game with him on the pitch then....I'll be happy! Was unlucky not to get the pass from Roberts late on yesterday as again he makes some good runs....at 21 he has time to learn from the master and seems to be doing so.
====.
Their MotM......has to be their goalie again....some great saves in tandem with the woodwork!...can we not make our goals 2" wider and 1" taller?...our +30 would be nearer to +40 by now.

From now until the end of February is a crucial period of time to decide who is in for what:
...
We play:
Tranmere (a) I fancy 3pts there; Crawley (a) will take a point
and MK Dons (a) the toughest fixture plus we don't do too well there.
.
All other 5 are against lower league teams which with the way we're playing I believe we can win 4 of those.
---
Tranmere:
.
They've got us at home (we're a real jinx team for them);
Notts Co at home (at a push it's a top half game)
.....then they have 4 other winnable games against lower league teams -
Strangely enough they also visit L.Orient and Colchester in their next 5 games...after which we'll both be level on games played (weather permitting) and I believe could be level on points with 11 games to go.....next week is huge for both teams!!
---
Doncaster: Who seem to have made a sensible appointment have no game next Sat (would have been MK Dons away) so we'll have played 1 more than them by next Wednesday..and:
.
MK Dons (h); Crawley (a) and Yeovil (h).....plus 3 other lower league teams.
...could see them drawing 2 at worst so at the end of Feb:
Doncaster: Pld 34 - 72pts
Tranmere: Pld 35 - 71pts
Swindon: Pld 35 - 68pts (expecting 1 draw and 1 loss in 8)
===.
I'm not ignoring Brentfor and Sheff Utd but do think their March fixtures will find them out.
....
Doncatesr definitely the team to beat but we can catch Tranmere

From those 12 or 13 wins you mentioned we need, one would like to think we can win or draw the 8 home games, so we will still need to pick up 4 or 5 more wins away from home. A big ask, but if we can hold on to our loanees everything is possible, just hope key players like Wes and Nathan can stay injury free because we don't have adequate cover if we were to lose one or both of them.

Loads of very good positive post today. firstly we all owe a big thanks to Paolo, the ground staff and volunteers for making it possible, a big, big thanks to all involved.

I dont think Ritchie has been at his absolute best for the last couple of games or so, so high is his standard, that is not putting him down in any way. Again yesterday his competative spirit got the better of him with his card and his answering back to the ref which is worse this season also does him little favour. Cannot fault his spirit and toil.

Bampton looked good yesterday as did Tadpole Bridge and the road up to Buckland, so thanks for that. Came back usual way almost but via Burford as I gave a lift to a couple of chaps on the way back.
I had issues with Claridge a while back and got put down for it, perhaps a few more are seeing now what I saw then. Can anyone say what the yellow card count is now for Ritchie and macca. Macca can and will be rested as we have ample cover. but IMO we can't afford to lose Ritchie, especially as we still have to visit every team in the top 7.
Flint should be OK after his two reds he has a clean sheet and with his new haircut, the refs won't recognise him anyway.

No doubt they will come into play later in the season but all other top clubs except Tranmere have far more cards so not as much of a concern for us at the moment.

Unless everyone agrees with him he gets all pompus and spouts drivel - like when the Bournemouth player picked the ball up in the penalty area -

I thought the board meeting was today? If it was yesterday then no doubt we'll get a trickle in the morning from the articles (none seem to come out on a Sunday any more) but there may be a lot of secrecy required still if potential buyers are short-listed.

Very encouaging and impressive (and very long of course!) post-match interview with PDC on BBC Wilts. Well worth a listen. It sounds as if some kind of takeover is almost in the bag. Fingers crossed, baited breath and all that.
.
A superb moment today when PDC was instructing our players on how to deal with a Shrewsbury sub before he'd even stepped onto the pitch!
Yes I said to my mate (yes I do have one). Look at Paolo after he called flint over to give him advise on how to combat the threat from the sub before he walked on the pitch. Pure genius also perhaps it's me flint don't look so intimidating to the refs with his hair shorter?. As to the ref I thought he was absolutely brilliant yesterday with no one commenting on him so far, so I thought I might just mention him, as you also likes to appraise officials.
Onwards and upwards.
The league starts now
What did you think of the the lady lineswoman on the Arlells side I thought she got a few decisions wrong but nothing too controversial, in fact the ref over ruled her on a couple of occassions.
Yeah she did do a couple of dodgy mistakes but as I said the ref rectified it that's why I thought he had a good game and also he could have gave a free kick outside the box instead of waiting to award a pen, another great shout.
Going back to the lino she could have been used better, like making and cooking the pizzas for Paolo and his red and white helpers.
No place for women in the world of football.

Swindon town 3rd in div 1, say no more, the BBC are so bias, they are a disgrace. With only 4 or 5 games on yesterday I was sure the Football league show would give us some coverage, but the same as was the case last week at Bournemouth, we didn't get a mention, I dare say we will when we get beat though. lol

I've stopped getting wound up by the Football League show now and just find it laughable.

Let's keep the Green Eyed Monster growing!

Got two Tranmere supporting mates and both are looking for revenge but both confide that they and others don't hold out much hope of beating us given the recent record and perceived jinx over them! :-)

Last 4 seasons together we've:
Pld 7 - W 5 - D 1 - L1 - F 17 - A 3
Let's hope it is 6-1-1 20-4 after next Saturday!!?... :-)

Sorry to say I rarely watch his show now as its on too late and I'm too busy to watch it on player etc. I think the bloke , ahem, (his favourite saying, ahem), is as you describe. We all see things differently, because we are human, but like Patey for example, I don't like the bloke. I do think that Leroy tries to do it better when he is on, but I think he is easily led by the Maniche guy. Doubt if I could do any better. I think they need somebody who tells the truth and actually does some research on matters properly rather than spout the rubbish about clubs such as ours right now. I'm going to have to watch more of ITV 4 as they seem to putting a lot lore on now, even if they have the dreaded adverts.

I'm not sure why so many people are getting so upset about the Football League Show. They have featured us prominently many times in the past, and I'm sure they will do so again in the near future. I like the programme and I 'm really not fussed whether Claridge likes us or not. He's paid to speak his mind not to like or be liked by any club or its fans. There is nothing worse than a football pundit who sits on the fence all the time for fear of upsetting anyone. I'm sure Trevor Brooking stopped doing it years ago because the splinters were getting too uncomfortable. I bet there are fans at every club who say Claridge is biased against them, just as there are those who think they are the only ones who ever suffer from suspect refereeing decisions.

How they missed some of the stuff in the first half I dunno, and the penalty, well I think the ref wasn't going to give it initially but the crowd uproar changed his mind. Surprised Alan Macca didn't get a card for the penalty foul.

Perhaps a number of Journo's are looking to retire to the South Coast, or is it because they have a nice manager, or have they been through SO MUCH. Lower average attendance, a big squad, pay £400,000 for a player, bid £?000,000 for Ritchie. Are they cheating too ?????
Answer is NO same as Town, we are both very lucky to have or have had a backer that has supported the club.
As for the football league show, quite happy to not be mentioned until we win it in April :-)

Our penalty, I think Andy Williams deserves credit for not actually going down until wrestled to the floor. The guy had hold of his arm and to Andy's credit he tried to beat the guy rather than go down. The foul started outside the box and finished well inside, how many players would have gone down earlier ?
Had a perfect view and definately a Penalty, as was their's (sadly).

I couldn't give a stuff whether Claridge like us or not but when listening to two so called 'informed' pundits summing up a limited number of fixtures in League 2, you would have thought the form team who hasn't lost for donkeys, has a scoring and clean sheets record second to none, has just announced it is up for sale and had 60 fans out on the pitch with the manager until 1am, might, just might, have got a mention.
Still, I refuse to become paranoid, although someone has just told me that BBC stand for Broadcasting for Bristol City.
I reckon Maniche ought to man-up and tell the producer to get some proper football dialogue of the programme.

As for the Football League show, I don't care much for Steve Claridge's opinion on anything. That show is 75% focussed on the Championship. L1 and L2 are an afterthought with the occasional visit to a club from Clem. A routine home win for the club that started in 5th place was never going to grab their attention, even with our fantastic snow shovelling, pizza providing, destined for the top manager.
In fact I don't care much for many forms of the media at the moment with some of the rubbish getting written at the moment (not a pop at Sam). The latest one by Dulaney as mentioned above is terrible journalism.

The club is in debt to its owners. Almost every club in the country is in debt to its owners. If we are cheats, what does that make Chelsea, Manchester United etc? That question was conveniently avoided. Horrible, spiteful stuff.

For our penalty their defender started fouling Willo outside the box. Should that have been given from where it started? Same as the Ritchie yellow card foul - that happened just inside our half, their guy carried on lost the ball fairly and the free kick was given where he lost it just outside our area? The back pass rule is so confusing and can be mis-interpreted. This is one rule that needs to be clarified, especially to kids playing as they have terrible problems with it. I don't recall one on Saturday but maybe I interpret the rule differently.
Agree about the Ritchie incident, advantage was played until they lost possession and the foul should have been taken back to where it occured.
The Williams penalty, difficult, the guy had hold of his arm outside the box but Andy's strength took him well inside (3-4 yards) before he was finally hauled down. If a player attempts a trip, fails first time outside the box because the player is strong enough but then succceeds second time inside the box, should the free kick be awarded for the first trip or the second ?
Anyone remember the Paolo quote from last season about penalties.

Our financial situation is clearly that the own wants out and he would like his money back, if pos. We dont owe the council, the taxman, players or any suppliers. So whats the problem. Black sell and someone else buys - simple transaction.
Yet a thought occured to me, Port Vale went into admin last season cos of financial difficulties. now after a restructuring they're riding high in L2. Don't hear anyone knocking them.

You buy a used car for £5k.
(Read: STFC)
You keep the car for a couple of years during which time you either:
A) Spend thousands upgrading the vehicle to a better standard.
(Read: Sign Players, Gain Promotion, Push for 2nd Promotion)
B) Spend just enough money so the car loses no value.
(Read: Retain league status....just)
C) Spend no money on maintenance and accept the car WILL have an ongoing depreciation in value.
(Read: Freefall out of existance)
Whichever option you choose is up to you as the OWNER, and it is also up to you as the OWNER to sell that car at WHATEVER PRICE YOU CHOOSE!!

Oxon, I disagree on the Ritchie incident. Same principle as the Williams penalty.
The Ritchie one though should surely have been taken back to where the foul started and ended. Otherwise if the attacker had run on 10 yards further into the box and then had the ball taken off him you're saying that should be a penalty?
