Midfielder Alan Navarro finally made his return after four months out with a knee injury this evening, and is glad to be back.
ALAN NAVARRO
"It was nice," he said.
"We were short on numbers and it gave me a chance, and it was nice to get some time and start playing football again.
"I wanted to make a good impression and didn't want to let the manager down, and the manager recognised my legs were going and took me off at the right time.
"It is a massive result for us coming oiff the back of a few draws, and these are the games we needed to win."
10:16pm
Striker James Collins once again came on and had an immediate impact, and he was pleased to find his form again.
JAMES COLLINS
"It's a massive three points because it was our game in hand on Tranmere, and the lads were superb," he said.
"It went my way tonight and I got the winner, but in the last few games I have been a little poor and I deserved to be on the bench.
"Every striker wants to play games and score goals, so you have to come on and work hard and score, which is what I did.
"Gary Roberts had a great game tonight, and he cut inside and I made a run, he slipped me in and I hit it hard and low through the goalie's legs."
10:09pm
Manager Paolo Di Canio has spoken to the media, and only wanted to say a few words.
He praised his players' performance, and then left without answering any further questions.

9:39pm
Another great three points for Town, earned in awful conditions once again.
Swindon up to third in League One following the win, two points behind the top two.
9:36pm
FULL-TIME: Colchester 0 Swindon Town 1 (Collins 53)
9:35pm
90+2 minutes: Flint rises to meet Roberts’ corner, but Walker saves with his legs.
9:34pm
90 minutes: McCormack drifts a cross deep into the box, where Roberts rises superbly, only to see Walker palm his header over. Four minutes added.
9:32pm
Nothing in the way of chances in the last few minutes, but Town are keeping the ball better and better in these closing stages.
Andy Williams had completely run himself into the ground this evening, he deserves a lot of credit.
9:30pm
SUBSTITUTION: Billy Clifford replaced by Jack Compton. (86)
9:28pm
SUBSTITUTION: Alan McCormack replaces Adam Rooney. Another good display from the Irishman. (83)
9:25pm
80 minutes: Foderingham does superbly to hold onto Ibehre’s shot above his head.
9:22pm
77 minutes: Miller finds Ferry who in turn feeds Roberts, and the winger’s shot is deflected wide. His first corner is headed behind, and after Miller takes the second, Rooney heads it back across the box for Flint to head over.
9:21pm
SUBSTITUTION: Clinton Morrison replaces George Porter. (76)
9:19pm
The Town fans are in really good voice in this second half, clearly letting Di Canio know what they think of him.
9:15pm
70 minutes: Good save from Walker who denies Williams to his right. Good break from Town there
9:13pm
SUBSTITUTION: Gavin Massey is replaced by Drey Wright.
9:10pm
65 minutes: Town work the ball inside for Miller, who drills low into the arms of Walker.
9:08pm
The sleat is beginning to fall here, and the pitch is getting worse. Some areas are fine, but in others the ball neither rolls or bounces. And it is getting on my laptop.
9:05pm
SUBSTITUTION: Simon Ferry replaces Alan Navarro.
9:03pm
YELLOW CARD: Alan Navarro is shown the yellow card after chopping down Wright, and it looks as if he is going to be replaced by Simon Ferry.
9:02pm
57 minutes: Navarro’s shot is blocked by Thompson.
8:58pm
GOAL 1-0 SWINDON (Collins, 53): Roberts cuts in from the right wing and slots in Collins, who fires home having only come on at the break. The super sub is at it again!
8:57pm
52 minutes: Ward gets across well to thwart Ibehre, and Town clear the corner.
8:57pm
51 minutes: Superb defending from McEveley as he gets across to head behind with Massey lurking.
8:55pm
50 minutes: Sears shot is blocked by Ward.
8:53pm
48 minutes: George Porter trickles a shot straight at Foderingham.
8:51pm
47minutes: Miller shoots into the ground and his shot flies wide.
8:47pm
Back underway again.
Rooney on the left in place of De Vita.
8:47pm
SUBSTITUTION: Raffa De Vita replaced by James Collins.
8:46pm
ATTENDANCE: 3,214 (337 Town fans)
8:44pm
Expecting James Collins on at half-time, he just came out to get his shin pads wearing full kit.

8:30pm
42 minutes: David Wright shoots wide for the home side.
One minute added.
8:28pm
40 minutes: Colchester win a corner off Jay McEveley, but after Ibehre’s knock-down hits Thompson, penalty appeals are waved away.

BREAKING NEWS : Sam Morshead is about to come on. Who is going off ?
Sam suits the motionless screen role in front of the back four, so I suggest Alan Navarro.
8:25pm
37 minutes: Rooney finds Williams with a great flick, but the striker can only fire over after cutting inside.
8:22pm
Town starting to take control of this, but the home side pose a real threat on the break. Livening up a bit.
8:18pm
30 minutes: Billy Clifford curls in an effort which is tipped over by Sir Wes.
8:16pm
28 minutes: Flint and Foderingham get in a bit of a mix-up dealing with a back-pass, but the keeper takes charge and dribbles the ball clear before firing long.
8:13pm
25 minutes: Rooney’s shot is deflected over, and Col U clear the corner.
8:11pm
23 minutes: From the corner which follows, Ward flicks the ball on but a stretching Rooney can’t reach it at the back post.
8:10pm
23 minutes: Adam Rooney flies onto the ball in the box, but is unlucky to see the ball cleared off the line by Brian Wilson.
8:09pm
20 minutes: A long free kick is fired into the Town box, and after it is knocked down John White gets a shot off which is superbly saved by Wes Foderingham.
8:02pm
15 minutes: Nathan Thompson wins a corner, but Roberts’ kick is poked away for a throw. The ball is worked back into the box, but Williams can’t reach Aden Flint’s knock-down.
8:00pm
12 minutes: Roberts slips in Williams who is able to cross, but Darren Ward heads a free-header wide. He had to stretch for it, but he should have done better.
7:58pm
Nine minutes: Williams looks to break following a Colchester corner, but the heavy pitch makes it hard for him to get away from Wright, and he is tackled.
7:56pm
Eight minutes: Williams is fouled by David Wright, but Robert’s free-kick is easily headed clear.
7:54pm
The pitch is very boggy this evening, meaning the ball is spending a fair amount of time in the air. Not pretty.
7:52pm
Three minutes: Andy Williams wriggles free down the right, but there is no-one in the box and his cross is straight into the hands of Sam Walker.
7:48pm
One minute: Town earn a corner, but Colchester are able to clear. The home side break, but quickly lose the ball.
7:45pm
We are underway

IN THE HOME DUGOUT – Joe Dunne
JOE DUNNE
The Irishman took charge of the club he represented more than 200 times in September, and after winning at the County Ground thanks to a Michael Rose free-kick, went on a disastrous run which saw the Us lose nine straight league games.
That rot has been stopped now with two wins in a row, and Colchester are now on their way back up the League One table.
The 39-year-old started his career at Gillingham where he made more than 100 appearances, beforefirst moving to Layer Road in 1996. His time in Essex was cut short by a very brief spell at Dover, before returning north in 1999 before his career was cut short by injury in 2003.
He quickly became Colchester's under-17 and then youth team coach, and in 2007 he was appointed reserve team coach, later becoming first team coach under Paul Lambert.
Dunne was installed as caretaker manager after the Scot departed in 2009, and won one of four games, but after Aidy Boothroyd came and left he became assistant under John Ward.
After Ward’s dismissal he was once again appointed caretaker, but before he was able to play a game he was given the job full-time by chairman Robbie Cowling.

7:27pm
Di Canio has been keen to avoid talking about his future in recent days, all in a bid to concentrate on tonight's game.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“I’m not talking about the rest of the season because we don’t know what’s going on in the next two days. We are living day to day, working day by day to get the best we can in terms of quality in training sessions, strategy to win the next game, the maximum professionalism as usual.
“If you ask me the future, I can’t tell you because we don’t have a normal situation. We don’t know what’s going on in the next four days. If it remains like today it will be a very dark future in terms of hoping for something important.
“We don’t know, but now what can we say? You know what has happened in the last few months, maybe you don’t know everything but in the last few days it is clear how I have worked in the last few months."

DANGER MEN
Magnus Okuonghae

The huge Nigerian defender is the bedrock of the United defence, and is an imposing presence whoever he is playing against. Not the most technically gifted player, but is a giant in the air and will look to muscle the Town strikeforce out whenever possible.
Freddie Sears

The former West Ham youngster is full of pace, and is a great partner for fellow striker Jobo Ibehre who will provide the strength. Sears can run the channels well, and will look to spread the play whenever possible.
Jabo Ibehre

The striker returned to Essex during January following a spell on loan earlier in the season, and has been a handful for defences up and down the country throughout his career. His spells with the Dons and Orient have not always brought the goals perhaps expected of him, but he work rate and physical presence can often give his side a platform to build on.
7:16pm
The Town boss was expecting to play on a difficult pitch this evening, even before the late flurry of snow.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“Tomorrow it will be difficult because it will be another pitch where you can’t play football. This is another aspect with all the other problems, it gives you even less chance to get what you want, and we are playing against a side that in this moment are better than us.
“They have two wins in two against two draws in two. They have five goals scored and two goals conceded against one goal scored and one conceded. At this moment they are better than us.
“It’s not about fifth from the bottom and fourth from the top. At this moment we have to say that we are going to play against a side which is better than us, for a different reason and not for the individuals’ technical quality.
“I hope tomorrow we can get a draw there. They have better confidence now, they have changed the system a bit, they have changed some players and some players who have been out for a few weeks are back in the team and affecting it in a positive way.
“There is quality there. We saw in here when we lost to them. They have one or two players who have played in the Premiership and Championship.
“It will be very difficult, not because I am giving up, but if we draw it would be a fantastic job."
7:13pm
Despite bringing a small squad to north Essex, Di Canio insisted his squad of players have been superb since September.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“It’s not about the 14, which is a pathetic situation for a club that was claiming it wanted to go up and had ambition in the past. We are not pathetic - the players and the stafrf - that is for sure. We are amazing in this period and all periods since September.
“My players have always been fantastic in terms of professionalism, character and commitment but one day the energy will finish. You can’t make miracles, you can’t handle the situation every time, every day, every minute for six months because they are humans.
“They had hope at the beginning of the season, they came here with a plan and even if there is a manager you doesn’t let them go blurry it’s not easy. It’s not easy to keep it going. I hope they are going to give what we saw in the second half at Crawley.
“The character is not enough if you’re not fully concentrated."
7:09pm
So, Swindon name only 15 players this evening, which manager Paolo Di Canio feared when he spoke to the press yesterday.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“On Saturday we travelled with 17 players. One or two are not really completely ready for the game - Jay for example was the first game and he had difficulty with the game but this is natural," he said.
"We saw it with Tommy Miller when he came back from his injury.
“Tomorrow it will be even worse. We will travel with 14. A team five points from the top will be travelling with 14 tomorrow. We know when it happened to another club, at the County Ground - Portsmouth. You know how they were in big problems.
“Now a club who is close to the top on Saturday travelled with 17, with a kid not really fit and four players with a virus.
“Now we are going to travel with 14, with some problems with a player who will go on the bench. That is our situation and we know who we have to thank.
“I hope we have 14 because there is a possibility that there will be 13. We have some little problems but I can’t have many options so I have to hope my players are ready to play even with some problems.

BREAKING TEAM NEWS
COLCHESTER UTD v Swindon Town: Walker, David Wright, Okuonghae, Sears, Wilson, Massey, White, Porter, Thompson, Clifford, Ibehre.
Substitutes: Cousins, Morrison, Bond, Bean, Eastman, Drey Wright, Compton
7:04pm
Leigh Bedwell finally goes out to begin his warm-up, the look on his face says he doesn't really fancy it, though.
7:02pm
Colchester are out for their warm-up at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.
7:00pm
Tommy Miller will captain the Swindon side tonight, with Alan McCormack on the bench.
7:00pm
Goalkeeper Wes Foderingham comes out to begin his warm-up, and it will need to be some warm-up in these conditions. The slight dusting of snow is beginning to vanish, so no hope of the orange ball I'm afraid.
6:59pm

TEAM NEWS
Official word shortly, but we know Town are missing several players for various reasons.
Joe Devera, Troy Archibald-Henville, Miles Storey and Louis Thompson have injuries, Aaron Oakley is with Wales Under 21s and Chris Martin has gone back to Norwich.
JOE DEVERA
Paolo Di Canio has told the Adver he would not consider using Luke Rooney, Lee Cox or any further members of the youth team squad.
6:42pm
Five Swindon players have come out to look at the pitch - Andy Williams, Wes Foderingham, Alan Navarro, Gary Roberts and Tommy Miller - which would be a half-decent five-a-side team.
However, we're under the impression 14 players have traveled to Essex this evening.

Following recent events that is good news, as we all look for the distraction of actual football in the wake of statements, administration near-misses, player sales and general confusion.
Stick with us for all the build-up, followed by match updates and reaction as Swindon look to close the gap on the top two.
6:37pm
There's been a momentary worry at the Weston Homes Community Stadium this evening following a brief blizzard in Essex, and the pitch has a light dusting of snow on top ahead of tonight's game.
However, despite the state of the playing surface - which is boggy underneath - it looks like it will be all systems go and this League One fixture will go ahead as scheduled.

After the Crawley game I was very impressed with Rooney and to compare him to Martin who came on for Roberts he was head and shoulders above the so called better player. In fact I am not a great lover of Rooney's ball control and skill level yet for shear effort no one can fault the guy. His record of 4 goals in just a handful of games surpasses Martins record with more starts. I am warming to the guy's effort and he actually did change the game Saturday and could easily had won the game with a superb header that was fantastically saved. Yes I would certainly start him tonight as he could prove a right handful and therefore take the pressure off Williams. Martin was a good player but did give far too many free kicks away up front being too forceful and his goalscoring well enough said on that one. I think what Rooney lacks in skill he certainly makes up for in shear effort and will give any defense a hard time and prime them for Collins to finish them off later on in a game. I think the sooner this week is over the better with all these so called experts who have all the inside knowledge of what is going on. Me, I will just wait to hear what the football league decide and then listen to the new board hopefully of their plans for the future and actual facts. Paolo, well he then can make his mind up if the new board want him to carry on or may be they have little money and just want to be a basic average division one club and then we can all move on.

Like the Grand Duke of York, he'll take us to the top
because's he cares his determination won't stop
Promotion this year that is his aim,
it will only lead him to far more fame
Paolo we salute you the general you are,you will be going, with our blessings afar,
To a big club that deserves all that you done, now is not the time to give in or run
You are our legend, our hero and god
Stay with us this season and give us the nod
We love you Paolo!

It may be tactical but there's a touch of the drama queens about this to me.
I am also bemused as to why we put in offers for the 3 players we wanted on loan. Who confirmed the money to pay their wages would be available? Why wasn't it made clear by Watkins what the process is regarding signings during a take over? He's the Chief Exec. Did he know what PdC and Spencer were doing? Did PdC and Spencer disregard his advice? Did Watkins know the rules?!!
We can only surmise. In any event time to do battle!!

Hopefullywith a few back fit and healthy this weekend we can put a show on in front of a big home crowd.

For what its worth, heres my take on the Pdc interview...
We know no more than we did on fri/sat - which is positive (he hasnt walked yet). Paolo is a man of honour and clearly hasnt made his mind up until this deal is ratified - which from his perspective is the right stance.
If this situation is getting you stressed (as it is me), consider this.
At 5pm on Saturday we could know the following;
1) The deal is done, Pdc has spoken to the new consortium and is content. He is staying.
2) The new consortium are 'loaded' and has aspirations for Premiership football.
3) We are top of the league.
No - I am not on drugs... this scenario is equally as likely as any others.

Paolo di Cannedio? Swindon's buyer-in-waiting is ready to sack their ''too expensive'' manager
5 Feb 2013 22:30
Robins are third in League One but Italian's big salary is a strain on resources and potential new club chief wants is poised to make a change
Cash-strapped Swindon are ready to sack manager Paolo di Canio – because he is too expensive.
The extrovert Italian faces the axe despite a good run of results at the League One promotion chasers, where he is paid a thumping salary.
Di Canio claimed last week that he was “considering his position” after star Matt Ritchie was sold and he was given no money for new players.
Now Swindon’s potential new owners are poised to change manager if they are given Football League blessing to take control in the next 48 hours.
Buyer Jed McCrory is keen to land Brian Stein and Mike Newell as the new management team after the pair worked together at Luton.
Stein is pals with former Banbury United supremo McCrory. Newell has been out of the game since a spell at Hartlepool but is keen to return.
Di Canio’s exit would be unpopular with Swindon fans but the former Celtic, Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham star's reign has been a strain on the Town coffers, with his own wages a major factor in the imminent change.

We had an owner in Andrew Black who was, once upon a time, prepared to fund annual operating losses of around £1.2 million.
Question is, are the new owners happy to indulge themselves to the tune of meeting a £100,000 loss every month? If they have the money.
If they are, then good on 'em. If they aren't, then they will have to save on the wage bill. Which means either selling players, or getting rid of PDC and his team. Can't believe they would just 'sack' Paolo as has been suggested, because of the required pay-off.
But something that would **** him off, like saying they didn't want to sell Ritchie and then doing it, or promising loan players in the knowledge that the Football League couldn't sanction them, might be enough to make Paolo walk without it deemed constructive dismissal. Wouldn't be smart from a fans' reaction perspective though - makes you wonder why they even want in?
All conjecture of course.

My thoughts, for what they are worth, is that Paolo is waiting for the outcome of the FL approval and the intentions of the new owners. He has been full of his praise for his players and the fans in the last few days and they are the people that have so far kept him at the County Ground.
I would hope as a minimum that the new owners come in and say you have our full backing until the end of the season. i.e. we will fund the current squad, the 3 new loan players you have targetted and possibly ANOther. Then at the end of the season we review the situation and take it from there.
We do not know who they are, how much money they are prepared to invest etc. We may have, as Town fans, to perhaps be less demanding in the future. We love success but sometimes it comes at a price we cannot afford and that is not something we want.
If this takeover is successful, and if it is I believe it will save the club, we may have to lower our sights a little in the future and wait. More importantly though, we will still have a club to support.
Positives for the board:
Great position in the league, great manager, great fans and possibly the best squad of players ever at the CG.

We should be concentrating on;
!. Do we still have a Club?
2. Do we still have PDC?
3. Can we still sign the proposed loan players at the end of the week and Wright -Phillips in particular? His goals would see us promoted.
The rest of the debate is just totally secondary and Jock, Den and Wizard, you should know better by now!!”

I realise they are a separate body but do you think that stops them from living it up!?....I don't :-)
...point is that FL will ratify the sale by CoB on Thursday....if not it means there is trouble ahead!
...
Anyway to the others - Great result and for anyone that was there - I don't know about you but Paolo didn't look like he was going anywhere tonight except HOME!....he looks emotionally shattered and in need of a big pick me up from the new board!...I hope they were there tonight!!
.
SAP, I did not make a big deal of anything. I merely pointed out, politely and without any hint of confrontation, that the Football League has nothing to do with England internationals. You then decided, as you tend to do, to plough on and try to justify your "tongue in cheek" comment. If you are going to take a swipe at someone - even if it is intended to be good humoured - the least you can do is make sure that it's relevant - or, if you have made a mistake, accept with good grace that it's not.
.
Nearly everyone on here disagrees with one another from time to time. That's great stuff - the heartbeat of this forum. Most people make their points stoutly, and we all like to try to persuade others round to our point of view. Sometimes we win the argument, sometimes we lose it. Occasionally the exchanges get heated and people cross the line between healthy debate and personal animosity. You, on the other hand, have a history of bypassing the debate and responding with instant venom to anyone who dares to say something that's not in line with your own views. Just in case you doubt that is so, I would add that I am absolutely certain that I could quote examples, although I have no wish to do so. It is, of course, entirely up to you how you conduct yourself on here but I, for one, would be grateful if you would think about it. Many posters will not have a clue what I am talking about. I think you will recognise it.
.
.
I can also provide 1000s of examples where I've engaged in debate and an exchange of opinions - I only have an issue with those posters who dislike others who have a 'Different Opinion' or who deign to question certain people.
.
I can't be bothered to argue any more as you seem to choose to disagree / get confrontational with so many innocuous comments on the site and whilst I agree with playing devil's advocate it can get somewhat predictable.
...
If people get a sense of humour then the world tends to look a far nicer place!
...
No-one else on the site is interested in our discussion so just ignore my posts as I do certain others...life will be far less stressful for you and your feigned indignity can be better directed on those who care.
...
You seem to be looking for something confrontational and I for one won't humour you as I'm not interested.
.
Cheerio and I'll get on with far more important things...at least your feigned hurt gave me a laugh anyway.
.
Alas, another of your trademarks looms large in this latest post. It may pop up in different forms of words but the message is always the same, i.e. "Go away. Your views are insignificant and I am not interested in them." It is an oft repeated haughty message of disdain and disrespect for your fellow Swindon Town supporters.
.
Lastly, I do not claim hurt let alone feign it and why you think I would want to pretend to lack dignity, I have no idea. However, I would certainly plead guilty to indignation - which may be what you meant.
