SWINDON TOWN: Navarro content with weekend off

ALAN Navarro thinks a weekend without a game will do Swindon Town good as they prepare to take on Tranmere and their difficult Prenton Park playing surface on Tuesday night.

The Robins were originally meant to make the trip to MK Dons tomorrow but the tie was postponed after the Buckinghamshire side reached the fifth round of the FA Cup, meaning Navarro & Co will be in training on Saturday and Sunday prior to the long trek to the Wirral.

The game against promotion-chasing Tranmere was called off last month due to a frozen pitch and midfielder Navarro, who once cost Rovers £225,000 when he moved from Crewe to Prenton Park in 2004, does not expect the pitch to have improved that much by the time Town come calling next week.

“It’s going to be a long week for us,” he said.

“It’s strange not having a game on Saturday but we’ve got to prepare right for the game on Tuesday. It’s a big six-point game.

“The pitch is not great so it’s going to be a battle and a grind and whoever goes out there is going to have to expect to fight.

“They’re going to be exactly the same.

“It’s going to be interesting to watch them on Friday night and see how the pitch is and how they go.

“Hopefully we can pick up answers.

“It (the pitch) is going to be even worse.

“They’ll probably just fill it with sand and it just drains your legs after half an hour or 40 minutes of playing on it, especially when the ball’s going to be in the air quite a lot of the time.

“All you’re doing is running and tackling.

“It’s going to drain the boys so it might be a blessing in disguise not to have a game on Saturday and watch them play Friday.

“We’ll be a bit fresher for the Tuesday game.”

Looking forward to a 2-1 win against Tranmere, and an added double bonus is that a) I get to listen to the game at 6.45am Wednesday my time and b) it gives me an excuse to miss 5am swim squad, so rather than struggling 64 laps I can stay in bed and listen to the game.

Not been inpressed with what i have seen of ALAN Navarro he needs to step up a lot more for me. ferry is by far the best midfielder on the books at stfc.
could do with better players to play next to ferry.

Can't see Alan starting I'm afraid, but if we don't have Pack or anyone else come in by Tuesday, he might be worth a shot for at least the first 45 minutes. If he could reproduce the form he showed against his other old club Brighton against this old club he could surprise us all.

Not much competition to replace Miller who doesn't cut it for me I'm afraid, he doesn't control the middle like Danny Holland did and is one of the worse culprits for playing head tennis instead of getting the ball on the ground. The guy totally exasperates me, I've been waiting for him to produce something special all season, but it hasn't happened so far, can't think of one game I've seen him play where I thought he has had a good game.

Even Ollie Risser scored 3 or 4 goals, Miller has not chipped in with any goals or assists that I can remember. I don't doubt he has been a good player in the past, but he hasn't shown much quality for us.

Don't expect to see any new faces in before Tuesday so it will be the thread bare squad v Tranmere. Critical we do not loose that game as by then we will probably be 6th and 6 points off the top minimum !!!
