SWINDON TOWN: THE VIC MORGAN COLUMN: The circus has left Town

THE VIC MORGAN COLUMN THE VIC MORGAN COLUMN

SO THE circus has left Town. The tent’s been taken down and the pegs removed.

It was always going to happen one day. The memories of the magic tricks and painted smiles are all we have left. It won’t be long before the “Big Top” is performing in another town or city.

Like all circuses, though, it was fun while it was here.

Every day there was the unexpected. Sometimes it was the slight of hand, other days it was the slapstick that kept us thrilled, entertained but never bored.

What happens now to fill that big empty space where once the caravan stood?

Do we look for another travelling show to excite us or is it to be a longer running performance with fewer thrills and spills?

There was a moment on Tuesday night when I believed we’d slipped into an alternate reality. The ringmaster was on the Wirral and was about to bring the tent back. Then that rumour disappeared and lesser lights were in the building.

Are they the people to build a solid foundation or will they be like sawdust - there for one day only?

The thing is the last 20 months have been like no other in the history of our football club. We’ve had drama, disappointment, fun, joy and downright pride.

When Swindon Town was at its lowest ebb a controversial Italian footballing genius picked it up and kicked it up the backside.

Now that genius has gone and taken his foot soldiers with him. It’s a bit like when the Olympics and Paralympics were over. For a moment you’re at a bit of a loss. Then you realise there are other things to concentrate on.

Swindon Town went to the top of League One on Tuesday night with no manager and no owners, but a team proud enough in what they do to make sure they achieved their goal.

I’ve read some say they’ll give up their season ticket now that PDC has gone.

Why would you do that?

Whatever happens it’s our TEAM, our CLUB. Now is the time to show your support. Thanks Paolo but now the circus master has left Town.

Things may come things may go but the Art School dance goes on forever.

Some poetic words of wisdom there - and I think we all agree it was good while it lasted - but it was never going to last.

Good luck and thank you PDC, hope you can find common ground to pitch up with another club somewhere.

Billy Smart may have left Town but the Big Top is still up and still has a few clowns inside.
Maybe tomorrow eh?

Perfectly summed up, I'll long remember last season's chants at Crawley "You're only here for the circus" in response to Evans and his pre-match pop at PDC - happy days...........

Lets face it. Everyone's been shafted here in this sorry episode. Just hope there's enough ointment to go round.

Lets hope the biggest circus is not around the corner turning STFC into the biggest joke in football.

No way am I convinced or impressed at the moment.

The phrase is 'sleight of hand' unless you think Di Canio has tiny hands. FFS.

All reminds me of a quite lovely song from years ago. 'Send in the Clowns'. Finishes with the line, 'Don't bother, they're here'!

People stop worrying about Newell. Jed has said time and again it's not happening.
He'd lose the entire fan base if he went back on that. No one is so stupid as to do that in the first weeks of owning a club.

Sorry if I offended you Redjet. I have a life and I'll be taking it to the County Ground on Saturday.

LOL, Custodian. I spotted that one too. But these guys are reporters - not writers.

I do wish though that the Adver would target its reporting resources on getting some answers to the pressing questions. Who are the new owners and what finance, if any, is behind them? What is going on behind the scenes with Black, Jed and Paolo? Is a constructive dismissal case looming? Who put the three proposed loan deals together?

This sort of rambling is already written by most posters on the forum.

As said real questions need answered. Who are the new owners. Do they have money to spend and are they willing to do it. Are they "wanna be's" with little money but big ego's. No losers for manager please. If you are going to play with Championship big boys there is NO substitute for money. With only about 14 matches left don't bugger up the team this season.
