SWINDON TOWN: Di Canio returns to County Ground to collect mementos... at 1am

Paolo Di Canio made a 1am trip to the County Ground Paolo Di Canio made a 1am trip to the County Ground

PAOLO Di Canio snuck into the County Ground in the dead of night to retrieve mementos of his time at Swindon Town, the Advertiser understands.

The Italian, who left the club on Monday, still had a set of keys to get into the stadium and is believed to have been caught on CCTV returning to his office at around 1am on Thursday.

The Adver has learnt that Di Canio removed pictures from the walls of his office which documented his success at the club.

While Di Canio formally confirmed his resignation on Monday, in a statement released to the Advertiser he revealed that it has not been officially accepted by the Swindon board.

He said: “The club have still not responded to my letter of resignation of 12th February.”

Di Canio’s representatives were not available for comment on Thursday night.

Well sad though it is to say it - If you read the press statement issued by the club earlier carefully there was no Olive Branch there that I could see. So I the only conclusion is that it's resignation accepted

If they're his mementos, then of course he has the right to get them back no matter what the time.

It's hardly breaking and entering.

I like PDC but the odds were always that it would end in tears. The deadline was his alone, and I just wonder how our employers would react if any of us issued them with such an ultimatum?

Shine on you Crazy Diamond. Exactly what I would do - well done and good move. Nothing wrong with that his heart was out for all to see. I love you Di Canio.

He is still the manager of the club. He probably has to give notice like everyone else. My advice is for him to come back, have a big old laugh about it, tell the world he loves the fans and legend status is enhanced.

......and the issue is what!?
.
He offered his resignation but no one responded therefore he is still employed and does not have a late night access banning order in his contract - therefore he accessed HIS office at HIS place of employment and took HIS possessions in the belief that he would not be returning...
-
....so I ask again what is the issue!?

No doubt the Daily Smell will put it's own sensationalistic viewpoint which is (in their opinion), the 'tabloid' truth - WELL MAYTE IT SELLS PAYYYPAS DUNNIT!!!

You are correct but we should be able to laugh this one off - 'He's got his own keysssssss!!'

Unless he actually stole any money out of the safe - not much chance of that!

Or has he also removed the pot that no one can p*ss in? That will be a little under the belt if he has.

Agreed, some amazing comments by Black tonight.... He feared for the clubs future after last relegation.. And JW was a massive west ham fan, Who obsessed about Paolo... Also club nearly sold in 2011 but deal fell through at the last minute. The 3 year plan wasn't his... It was only ever mentioned to him once....

Hmm. In my view there is almost an undertone of mocking in this article.

PDC and his team did fantastically and its been a glorious ride.

We are moving on and we acknowledge that. But don't take cheap shots at PDC who, lets face it was popular with Swindon fans for a very good reason - because we appreciated what he did for Swindon.

Good luck to the new board and management of Swindon.

Good luck and RESPECT to PDC and his technical team wherever they go.

With regard to the other article - Pateys comments were unnecessary in my view and i would say that they were less than diplomatic. It didnt need to be said. What was said about PDC by Patey doesn't change anything, it just sours it. Cheap shots in my view.

I am grateful to the previous board for saving the club at crucial time, grateful to PDC for what he did, and now grateful to Jed and his mates for rescuing us from financial difficulty.

Cue the next phase of our wonderful club.

Oh Paolo why did you leave? Us Town fans idolised you and you were so near to getting back to back promotions in the first 2 years of your managerial career! You would of been an absolute Swindon legend, we know all about Ritchie being sold behind your back but this would have made promotion even more remarkable!? But you left us and broke thousands of hearts and also lost the opportunity of achieving the impossible...you will probably look back on this with deep regret and sadness for the rest of your life, you made a bad decision, left unfinished business and punished the fans who gave you their undivided love and loyalty!

F@#king daily mail , making a mountain out of a molehill again just to sell papers , I don't believe for 1 minute he damaged anything , by all accounts he had the code to get in and collected his belongings , nothing wrong with that. I do feel that all this bad publicity is not doing Paolo any favours and its going to take a very brave chairman to take him on anywhere else . Gotta love the man though , given me some great memories.
