SWINDON TOWN: Interim bosses keen on 50-50 split

DARREN Ward and Tommy Miller will split managerial responsibilities evenly as they look to steer Swindon Town to promotion to League One.

The duo were put in joint caretaker charge of the Robins on Wednesday after Paolo Di Canio quit Town, taking the majority of his backroom team with him, and will lead the club for the first time when Preston visit the County Ground this weekend.

Ward has promised that the pair will remain open and honest with each other during the period they hold the reins at Swindon as they try to finish the job started by Di Canio & Co.

“It’s 50-50 as far as I’m concerned. We’ve had a good chat and we’re going to have to be very transparent, open and honest with each other because of everything which is coming,” he said.

“We’re looking forward to it and it’s something to get our teeth into.

“The work done from the previous management was superb. This is why we’re here.

“The hardest part when you get to the top is staying there. The lads are well-drilled, it’s good discipline and that’s what we’ve got to keep going.

“We’ll have a look at it. We’ve got to assess how the players are feeling because we’ve had quite a busy schedule and we’ve got one coming up. We’ve got to assess what’s right for the team and the club.

“It’s quite busy but not anything I’m not used to. I’m enjoying it together with Tommy, who’s obviously a capable guy, he’s had a very good career and he’s an experienced player.

“We’re taking this on and seeing how it goes. I’ve not known Tommy personally for very long but I’ve played against him many times and I know a lot of good things about him as a player and as an individual. “I’m really looking forward to it, I’m quite excited to be honest.”

Ward praised his colleagues for their togetherness in adversity this week, and urged Town not to look further than the game against North End on Saturday.

He said: “There was quite a lot of confusion leading up to it.

“It’s hard to talk about it really because we didn’t really know what was going on.

“Your mind is going mad, there’s a lot of games coming up, we had an important game at Tranmere and it was a fantastic performance. To keep the discipline under the circumstances was amazing and credit to everyone there.

“Our job is to keep this going.

“What we’ve got to do is to concentrate on Saturday’s game. It’s a great opportunity for us after the midweek win to get three points.

“With everything happening quite quickly is concentrate on Saturday’s game and take it from there.”
