HEAD TO HEAD: Goals on menu for visit of Magpies
6:00am Friday 22nd March 2013 in STFC News
Notts County manager Chris Kiwomya may want to give his defenders an extra pep talk before their tarrival at the County Ground, writes PETER GRIFFITHS.
In the 30 meetings between Swindon and the Magpies at SN1, Swindon have never failed to find the net.
If history is anything to go by, then County will need to bag a couple if they want to take home all three points tomorrow.
Whilst they won on their last visit to the County Ground the early years proved fruitless for the visitors.
Swindon won the first two clashes between the sides and despite picking up a win on their third trip in 1930, County then had to wait 44 years for their next victory.
Between 1930 and 1974 Swindon dominated the fixture, winning 11 of the next 14 matches, scoring an impressive 31 goals in the process.
Notts finally managed to crack their miserable run in February 1974 with an emphatic 4-1 victory and after waiting so long for a victory, then proceded to win on their next three visits to the County Ground.
In the 1990s and early 2000s though, Town once again resumed their stranglehold on the fixture, winning six of the next seven encounters between the two clubs.
2003 proved a year to forget for County as they shipped nine goals in two trips to the County Ground, losing 5-0 March and then 4-0 in August’s fixture.
Prolific striker Sam Parkin was tormenter in chief, scoring four goals in the two games including a hat-trick in the March fixture.
Since 2003 Swindon have failed to beat County and Kevin MacDonald will be hoping that his side can register a win that could see them move to the top of League One.
