SWINDON Town chairman Jed McCrory has revealed that the club are in discussions with “three or four” strikers as the Robins look to strengthen their frontline in the early weeks of 2013/14.

Following the departure of James Collins, the dispute over Adam Rooney’s contract and the sidelining of Paul Benson, caretaker manager Mark Cooper could only name two forwards with a league start to their name - in Andy Williams and Miles Storey - in the Town squad for the weekend trip to Peterborough.

McCrory stressed that he and director of football operations Lee Power are working hard to rectify that as soon as possible, however, and claimed that he has opened talks with several potential signings.

“We’re still chasing forwards that had been on our list previously,” he told the Advertiser. “We thought we were close to one of our targets on Sunday but that looks like it’s fallen away, and we’re trying to bring someone in to strengthen the frontline without affecting Miles and Willo.

“We definitely want to bring one in but if we can we’ll bring two in.

“We’re always looking to strengthen the squad and we’ve opened up discussions with three or four players to hopefully add one or two to the squad and continue from what we did at Peterborough.

“Hopefully the fans who turned up appreciated what the team did, and I’d like to thank them because I thought their support was unbelievable away from home.

“It was warming to see them applaud the players at the end of the game to thank them for their efforts.”

Meanwhile, McCrory and the Swindon board continue to mull over their options as the managerial position at the County Ground remains vacant.

Karl Robinson, the MK Dons boss, was installed as 4/1 third favourite for the role by SkyBet yesterday, behind Paul Tisdale - who the Adver understands has met with Town on several occasions - and Cooper.
