SWINDON TOWN: Hall relishing physical challenge
GRANT Hall feels he has been ‘thrown in at the deep end’ following his move to Swindon, but believes he is starting to get to grips with the physical demands of League One football.
The former Brighton and Tottenham defender arrived in Wiltshire in the summer following the departures of both Aden Flint and Joe Devera and has been given his first taste of regular football alongside experienced pro Darren Ward.
Hall was caught out by a long ball for Britt Assombalonga’s ninth-minute goal during Town’s opening day defeat at Peterborough, but has impressed during his first three Swindon outings and is pleased with how things are progressing at the back.
“Things are going well now and we’re starting to settle down as a back four and to get two clean sheets in the last two games means we can’t really ask for anything more,” he said.
“I’m getting a good partnership going with Wardy now and things are generally going well. He’s played at this level and higher for a long time now and has played a lot of games, so it’s good to be on the pitch with him because he’s always talking to me and helping me through.
“Technically this league isn’t a problem, but it’s a lot more physical in League One and you have to get used to it, but the more games you play the better you will get.
“It’s like being thrown in at the deep end a little bit, but I need to be playing and this is good for me and the physical side of things I probably needed.”
Hall is expecting a tough game away at Shrewsbury tomorrow, but knows he and his teammates still have plenty more to show despite back-to-back wins.
“I’ve got to keep performing and keep doing what I’m doing and if I do that hopefully I will keep my place,” he said.
“We’re a young team who have only played three games together, so obviously there is still plenty more to come from us as the season goes on.
“We go into every game with the aim of getting three points, but we know that won’t always be easy especially in away games.”
