SWINDON TOWN: THE VIC MORGAN COLUMN: I want Cooper to succeed
6:00am Thursday 22nd August 2013 in STFC News
THE waiting is over and the decision is made. After weeks of speculation, we now know the identity of Swindon Town’s manager.
It wasn’t a shock either was it? Most Town fans I know predicted the outcome and so it came to pass when Mark Cooper became the latest occupant of the County Ground managerial hotseat.
Nationally the news barely made a ripple. Among Town fans though, you could surf pretty well on the waves that it’s created. I’ve seen views expressed from the “that’s it I’ve had it with this club” variety, to the “a great decision by the board” end of the scale.
My view, for what its worth, is this:
I WANT Mark Cooper to succeed.
I WANT the board to succeed.
I WANT Swindon Town to succeed.
That doesn’t make me a happy clapper, or whatever the latest jargon is. It also doesn’t make me someone who accepts every decision the club makes as the right one. It makes me someone who wants my team to do well.
I’m not going to give up my season ticket, I’m not going to boycott games, I AM going to the Gillingham match on Saturday.
If you feel strongly enough about anything coming out of the County Ground not to watch the team anymore, that is your choice. Nobody forces us to go to football, we have the right not to attend if we don’t want to.
I would also defend that right as well, that’s the meaning of a democracy. Right now, though, the team needs backing. It could be a season of promise or a campaign of consolidation. We don’t have millions to spend on players we can’t afford. That’s life!
It is what it is. Lets get on with it.
