SWINDON TOWN: Cooper will only bring in additions for the right reasons
WITH the summer transfer window closing quickly, Swindon Town are running out of time to recruit new faces to their ranks. Manager Mark Cooper, however, has stressed that no one will be brought in just for the sake of bolstering numbers.
With only two senior strikers - in Nile Ranger and Miles Storey - available to Cooper, the Robins boss is desperate to make at least one addition before Monday night’s deadline.
Dany N’Guessan of Millwall remains a possibility, while a third bid for Bournemouth’s Wes Thomas could yet be in the offing, but Cooper has insisted Swindon will steer clear of making impulse buys.
“We’re still trying,” he said. “We’ve obviously got until Monday to do it. What we have to do is make sure that whoever we get has come in for the right reasons.
“It’s not a gravy train for someone coming for a last payday, it’s about getting someone who wants to play for the football club for the right reasons. If we have to wait until Monday we have to wait.
“We have to make sure they’re the right type for how we play, how the club’s run and he has to be able to integrate into the squad of players we’ve got.”
A report in the Daily Star yesterday claimed Town were lining up a loan move for Derek Safo Tieku - a winger the paper claimed was on Fulham’s books.
However, Tieku is currently part of the Crystal Palace development set-up and, when asked about the reported approach, Cooper told the Adver: “I’ve got to be honest, and I’m not being disrespectful, I’ve not heard of the boy.”
