SWINDON TOWN: Ajose so impressed by Ranger
NICKY Ajose is enjoying the opportunity to play alongside Nile Ranger at Swindon Town.
The on-loan Peterborough frontman has made three appearances for the Robins since his arrival on August 30, his first start coming with Ranger at Wolves on Saturday.
Ajose has nothing but praise for his strike partner, who for all his infamous past has made an impressive beginning to life in Swindon colours.
“He’s a good lad and a character. He’s a really nice lad, to be fair,” said Ajose. ”He’s come in and he’s not what you’d expect at all after what you hear. He’s been a breath of fresh air and he’s helped the team no ends holding the ball up and giving a different option.
“If you have a nine who can hold the ball and make it stick it takes so much pressure off the rest of the team, and in the games I’ve played in nine times out of 10 it’s going to stick.
“It’s the most important position in this team, in the formation we play, the nine is pivotal to the way we play.
With Alex Pritchard suspended for the visit of Bristol City this weekend, Ajose is likely to be handed another start by manager Mark Cooper should he chose to retain the formation which helped Town play Wolves off the park at the weekend.
If he does get the nod, Ajose has insisted there will be no greater weight of expectation on him in the absence of Pritchard.
“Pritch is a really talented player, he hits a great dead ball and is a really tricky player who can create things,” he said.
“There are other players in the squad who’ll be able to come in and do a job.
“I’ll just play the best I can in every game, regardless of whether I’m starting or on the bench and regardless of whether Pritch is or isn’t playing.
“I don’t think it puts any extra onus on me.”
