SWINDON TOWN: Kasim: Dream of facing Chelsea won't impact City display
THE imminent visit of Chelsea may be playing on Yaser Kasim’s mind ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Bristol City, but the midfielder certainly won’t be letting that affect his performance.
Kasim has admitted that the players’ minds have strayed a little to thoughts of next week’s glamour tie against the Europa League champions, but when City come calling for Saturday’s big local derby the Iraqi has insisted he will not be pulling out of tackles in an attempt to avoid injury or suspension.
The former Tottenham trainee’s mindset is all about getting stuck into the big occasions and he is not about to change his ways.
“You start thinking about it a little bit because it’s such a big game but once you’re on the field it will be a different story,” he told the Advertiser.
“You could be thinking about it today and thinking ‘it’s a big game’, sorting out tickets for family and things like that but when it comes to it and you’re playing against your rivals and the fans are there and you’re warming up, you’re not thinking that.
“If there’s a tackle you’re going to make the tackle, if you get injured you get injured, if you get the card you get the card. It just happens.
“Hopefully nobody gets injured or red-carded, but if they do then you’ll be thinking about it.
“You’ll be thinking ‘**** it, what have I done?’ - but you can’t do anything about it. It’s just what happens in the game.”
