SWINDON TOWN: Cooper targets play-off berth
SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper feels a Robins play-off challenge is a possibility if his players show the “passion and fight” which helped them to a 4-0 win at Rotherham every week for the rest of the season.
Goals from Alex Pritchard, Massimo Luongo, Nicky Ajose and Dany N’Guessan capped a fine performance in South Yorkshire, as Town withstood an early barrage of Rotherham pressure to produce a scintillating second-half display of passing football.
The victory was Swindon’s first on the road in League One all term but Cooper’s side still sit seventh in the table thanks to their superb home form. Having beaten another promotion-chasing side so comfortably away from the County Ground, however, Cooper hopes Town can replicate their efforts in their coming fixtures.
“If we play like that then of course we can compete but it’s difficult. We have to have that same passion and fight every week,” he said.
“I think we’re probably a little bit beyond where we thought we’d be at this stage.
“We said to the players today that if they won then they were right in the middle of it, they’ve done that and we certainly are.
“Some of the stuff we’re playing is excellent. I don’t know who would have been here watching today but I’m sure they’ll go away thinking ‘I tell you what, they’re not bad’.
“The remit was the style of play, which we’ve done, and now we’re getting results. Who knows where we can go now?”
