Town set to host League One's big guns as season goes on
THE way Swindon Town’s fixture list for 2013/14 has panned out bodes well for the Robins, according to goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.
With 12 matches of the campaign completed, Town sit sixth in the League One table, having played five of the top 10 teams in the division away from home, including three of the top four in Peterborough, Wolves and Preston.
Swindon have only picked up four points on their travels compared with 16 out of a possible 18 at home, but Foderingham believes the fact the sides chasing promotion to the Championship still have to visit the County Ground puts the Robins in a strong position.
“I think it’s alright because our home record speaks for itself,” he said. “Whether they’re a decent team or not we always seem to get a result at home.
“Away we’ve not done too bad, we’re in the top six and we’ve gone away to some tough teams and got a couple of good results. If we go away to lesser teams, I’m sure they’re going to give a good account of themselves but we’d bank on ourselves to get a result.”
Fodeirngham is loathed to predict what Town can achieve this term and for the minute he’s simply happy to be part of a side looking for their fifth straight victory in all competitions when Walsall visit Wiltshire tomorrow night.
“We’ve surprised a lot of people,” he said. “Nobody expected us to be there at the start of the season but it’s still early days and it’s too soon to call whether we can go better. We don’t know yet.
“At the moment we just know that we’re playing good football and we’re going to keep trying to do that for the rest of the season.”
