SWINDON TOWN: Luongo urges teammates to put things right
MASSIMO Luongo isn’t used to losing home games with Swindon Town but is now looking to bounce back from his first defeat at the County Ground at the earliest opportunity.
After originally moving to Wiltshire on loan at the end of last season, the Aussie made his move a permanent one in the summer and didn’t taste defeat in any of his first 10 league games on home soil.
That run came to an end against Walsall 10 days ago when the Robins lost 3-1 to Walsall, a defeat which hurt Luongo more than he expected, and the youngster wants to set the record straight against Port Vale tomorrow.
“Ever since I’ve been at Swindon we haven’t lost a home game and when we did it did hurt actually,” he said.
“We have the chance to put it right on Saturday now so it’s time for us to show everyone we mean business.
“Coming in after the game it really hurt and it’s a good thing it hurt, so hopefully we won’t feel that again.
“We have to work hard in training and look after our bodies and the gaffer and the coaches have been looking at how we can put it right.”
Luongo also insisted the defeat hurt more because he has now joined the club on a full-time deal.
“I’m settled in now and being in the team I take a lot more responsibility now because I’m part of the club,” he said.
“It matters more because it’s my career and I really want to do well.
“I like the town too and it’s a nice place to be.”
Town and Vale go into tomorrow’s game locked on points in the League One table but Luongo insisted they will only be focusing on themselves.
“I don’t think anyone looks at that and we just need to focus on how we play and make sure we do our job,” he said.
“Port Vale are a team I’ve not played before and I don’t know much about them but they are up there in the table so they must be pretty good.
“We will work on things and stop them playing the way they do and we will be pretty well-prepared.”
