MACCLESFIELD assistant manager Efe Sodje is predicting goals galore when Swindon Town visit Moss Rose in the first round of the FA Cup tomorrow.

The Silkmen have netted 15 times in their last four matches, while Swindon have scored at least once in each of their last eight outings and demolished Port Vale 5-2 at the weekend.

That sort of form has encouraged Sodje to foresee an entertaining afternoon in the north west, where the former Bury man has tipped an upset.

“It’s all about what happens on the day, it’s about going man-for-man with our players against theirs,” said Sodje. “We tell our players to win their own battles – then they’ve done their job and that’s all we ask.

“They scored five goals on Saturday and let two in and we won 3-2,” he added.

“So there could be a lot of goals and it should be great entertainment. We can score goals, so this could be a big upset."

Meanwhile, Macc’s manager John Askey has said the pressure is off his side going into the tie, and he hopes his players have it in them to reproduce the kind of performance which gave the Silkmen a 2-0 victory over Swindon at the same stage of the competition 12 months ago.

"It’s a nice distraction to play Swindon next week, they’ve won 5-2 against Port Vale so we know it’ll be a tough game but it’s the cup and we’re hoping we can make an upset,” he said.

“We’ve done it previously and there’s no reason why we can’t do it again but obviously we’re aware that they’re a very professional team.

"There’s no pressure on us apart from from a financial point of view, that’s where the pressure comes in.

“If we can win that it will make a massive difference to the football club.

“If we can make a difference on the football field that would be absolutely brilliant.”
