SWINDON Town manager Mark Cooper has revealed he does not have the scope to bring in loan reinforcements, despite the fact his medical team is currently dealing with a 12-strong injury list.

Ryan Mason yesterday underwent a scan on the ankle knock he picked up at Macclesfield on Saturday and there are fears around the club that the midfielder could be out of action for several weeks.

Mason joins a queue in the casualty waiting room which includes Wes Foderingham and Nathan Thompson - neither of whom are expected to feature against Wycombe in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tonight - as well as Miles Storey, Alex Smith and Tijane Reis.

Troy Archibald-Henville, who recently underwent another operation on his knee, is not due to return to first-team contention for a number of months.

Despite his injury woes, however, Cooper is unable to recruit from the loan market as Swindon are operating close to the maximum 60 per cent of turnover wage cup implemented by the Football League’s Salary Cost Management Protocol.

When asked whether loans were an option, the Town boss told the Advertiser “Not at the moment, we’ve got our quota of defenders and budget-wise I think we are where we are. We’re going to work with what we’ve got and try to make them better.

“I think it’s just a case of where we are at the minute. We’ve got a horrendous injury list and we’ve got 12 players injured. That’s hurting us at the minute but we’re not going to sulk, we’re going to come back fighting and try to answer the critics.”
