DARREN Ward has called on his Swindon Town teammates to exorcise the demons of Saturday’s defeat at Macclesfield when Wycombe Wanderers visit the County Ground tonight.

Ward, who has apologised to Town fans for the Robins’ performance in Cheshire, said he will use his position as captain to ensure that the Swindon squad are well prepared to make up for the 4-0 loss with progression to the southern section area semi-finals of the JPT.

Wycombe, who lie 12th in League Two, arrive in Wiltshire looking to make Town the victims of a cup upset for the second time in four days. Ward is determined to make sure that doesn’t happen.

“Many people say in football that when things like this happen it’s good to play soon after, so we’re lucky we’ve got another chance on Tuesday,” he told the Advertiser.

“We’ve got to prepare well, we need to look at it and think about it. It’s our job, we get paid well on behalf of the club and it’s our job to do so.

“I’ll make sure as a captain I do everything I can to encourage a reaction and do something to correct that.

“After Saturday it has to be a performance which reflects what we’re really made of and we need to come back after a very disappointing, below-par performance.”
