OUR youth team goalkeeper Jamie Stephens has returned from his week training with Liverpool, which was great experience for him.
He thoroughly enjoyed it, but reckons the players up there are spoilt! They don’t have to clean boots or dressing rooms as there are guys who come in specifically to do that, so he was a bit surprised by it all.
Jamie said he was looking for a brush after training, but there wasn’t one around!
The way he was talking about his time up there, he was so enthusiastic about it. It was a learning curve for him to have a look round, for Liverpool to have a look at him, and he’s come back full of beans.
George Wood (Town goalkeeping coach) trained with Jamie on Tuesday afternoon and said he looked sharp, bright and is developing ever so well.
He was on the bench for the Under 18s at Yeovil on Saturday, where we did very well to come away with a comfortable 5-0 win.
Seb Broomfield scored two and Billy Bodin, Matt Barnes and Josh Parson also notched, so that was pleasing.
We’ve only lost two games this season and won about 12 or 13, so that is very good. We are progressing well and some of the players have really come on.
A few have been given a chance in the reserves and that is a stepping stone for them where we can see if they are developing right and potentially first team level.
The reserves is the next step for them and they have to play well in there to get any opportunity with the first team.
This weekend the youth team are at home to Oxford in a local derby and then it’s five games on the spin.
It’s going to be difficult but we are six points clear at the top of the league - Rovers have got a game in hand in second place, and we’ve got to go to their place still, so it makes it quite exciting.
The most important thing is development, but the fact that the lads are winning is great for their confidence levels because we are scoring lots of goals and keeping clean sheets. Things are looking good.
