JONATHAN Douglas refuses to accept that Town’s recent defeats could be down to tiredness, insisting that is an all too easy excuse to trot out.
Following successive losses against Bristol Rovers and Milton Keynes Dons, questions have been raised over whether a gruelling season is starting taking its toll on a Swindon squad which has remained relatively unchanged throughout.
But vice-captain Douglas, pictured right, dismissed those suggestions and believes he and his colleagues have simply put in a couple of under-par performances.
“Tiredness is not an issue at all,” said the midfielder.
“Professional footballers are paid to play football and that is just an excuse that people can give.
“You should never be tired. We get plenty of rest throughout the week - the manager is sensible in that way and knows how to look after us. So that’s no excuse.
“We just haven’t performed over the last two games, and that is very disappointing.
“But we haven’t become a bad team overnight. We have to keep telling ourselves that, because we know we’re a good side. And so we have to keep working hard and we will turn it around.”
Town travel to Brighton tomorrow hoping to get back to winning ways, and Douglas explained they will approach the game with just one aim.
“We’ve got to win, simple as that,” he said.
“We don’t go into any game thinking we can just get a point or anything like that.
“Every game is approached knowing we can win and wanting to win. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn’t, but we will go to Brighton thinking we can get all three points.
“Yes, we are going through a bit of a bad patch at the minute, but a lot of teams have done that and hopefully this is the end of it.”
